Hong Kong Rap Duo Fama Breaks Macau Attendance Record With Comedy-Laced Concert

MACAU – Hong Kong hip-hop duo Fama made history Thursday night at The Venetian Macao, drawing 8,000 fans to become the first Chinese rap group to sell out a headlining concert of that size in the territory. The show, titled “The Funniest Concert in Hong Kong” — Macau edition — blended stand-up comedy with rap, and ended with a surprise appearance by pop icon Kelly Chen that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Record-Breaking Night in Macau

The duo, comprising C-Kwan and Luk Wing, kicked off the performance by joking about the ticket price — a modest 8 Macau patacas (about US$1) more expensive than their Hong Kong shows. “The funniest concert in Hong Kong … I don’t know about Macau, but paying 8 bucks more doesn’t mean it’ll be special,” Luk Wing quipped, drawing immediate chants of “refund” from the audience.

Ever the accountants, the pair calculated that the extra charge across 8,000 tickets would total 64,000 patacas. “That’s one bet at baccarat,” C-Kwan mused. “If you lose, too bad. If you win, everyone gets a cut.” They then delivered a classic gambling-themed pun: “Bet on banker, don’t want to go back to Hong Kong — because you’ve emigrated to The Venetian.” The crowd roared with laughter.

Comedy and Rap Blend

The concert was a rollercoaster of jokes and hit songs. From the opening notes, the audience was on its feet, dancing through a setlist of Fama’s most beloved tracks. The duo’s signature style — a mix of sharp social commentary, self-deprecating humor, and infectious beats — kept the energy high throughout the night.

Between songs, the pair continued their comedic banter, reinforcing their reputation as the “funniest” act in Cantonese hip-hop. The show’s structure moved seamlessly from stand-up segments to rap performances, a format that has become Fama’s trademark.

Surprise Appearance by Kelly Chen

The biggest surprise came during the encore. As the opening notes of “Feng Shui Rising” (風生水起) played, the screen displayed “Sister Linlin” (a playful reference to fortune teller Linlin, who features on the original track). A figure rose from the stage, face hidden behind a traditional conical hat. When the hat was suddenly tossed aside, revealing Kelly Chen, the venue erupted in screams.

Chen, a household name across Asia, joined Fama for three songs: “Feng Shui Rising,” “Flower Universe,” and “Anniversary.” The collaboration turned the evening into a full-blown celebration.

The duo then engaged in mock-serious music analysis with Chen. Luk Wing pointed to a lyric in Chen’s hit “Big Day” — “Kelly, come on shake your body” — and noted that the official lyric sheet says “Kelly wanna move my body.” “What does that mean?” he asked. “Kelly come move my body? That’s weird.” Chen laughed and agreed, “Now that you say it, it does sound strange.”

Looking Ahead

Before closing, Fama announced that after the Macau show, they will team up with actor-singer Zhang Jicong for a new stage show titled “Husband Group.” They also hinted at possible world and mainland China tours, vowing to continue the “funniest concert in Hong Kong” legacy.

With a record-breaking attendance and a surprise guest that thrilled fans, Fama proved once again that their unique blend of comedy and music transcends borders — and that they can pack a house even at 8 patacas more.
