Hong Kong boy band P1X3L has not disbanded, group member Wu Qiyang (Phoebus) confirmed Tuesday, addressing speculation that emerged after co-member Ye Zhenhong (Marco) was removed from the group’s official listing on parent company MakerVille’s website.
The five-and-a-half-year-old trio, formed under ViuTV’s talent management arm, has been the subject of breakup rumors in recent weeks. Fans noticed that Marco’s name and image had disappeared from MakerVille’s artist roster, leaving only Phoebus and fellow member Ou Zhenhao (George) listed on the site.
Appearing on ViuTV variety show “8pm Variety” on Monday night, Phoebus denied the dissolution rumors, explaining that P1X3L is currently in a frozen state while members concentrate on individual projects.
“We are temporarily focusing on personal development,” Phoebus said. “As I expressed in the music video for my new song ‘Laisheng Bu’ (No Next Life), I hope everyone continues to shine on stage.”
Phoebus revealed that he invited both bandmates to appear in the “Laisheng Bu” music video as a keepsake for the trio, emphasizing it was not their final collaboration. “I truly treasure the time we’ve spent together as three. We met up just last week, and I believe there will be opportunities to work together again in the future,” he added.
Regarding Marco’s contract status, Phoebus said he was unaware of the details and suggested that Marco should address the matter personally. However, he noted that Marco remains passionate about music and has been working recently, urging fans to continue their support.
New Music and Acting Projects
In addition to releasing solo music, Phoebus revealed plans to participate in an upcoming television drama. He also shared a recent incident involving Mirror member Stanley Yau (Qiu Shiji), who dropped his phone while the two were riding a motorcycle to promote Phoebus’ new song.
“I feel indebted to him,” Phoebus admitted. “Coincidentally, I won some prize money from a show I was filming, so I compensated him in cash.”
The singer also confessed to purchasing a motorcycle without telling his mother, who later rode on the back with him but remains concerned for his safety. “She keeps trying to persuade me to give up riding,” he said.
Industry Context
P1X3L debuted in 2021 as one of ViuTV’s emerging acts, alongside the massively popular 12-member group Mirror. The trio’s hiatus aligns with a broader industry trend in Hong Kong’s Cantopop scene, where group members increasingly pursue solo opportunities while maintaining their group affiliations.
MakerVille has not issued an official statement regarding Marco’s removal from its website or the group’s status.
As fans await further clarity, Phoebus’ reassurances provide some comfort, though questions remain about the group’s long-term future. For now, P1X3L’s three members are charting their own paths—but their leader insists the story is far from over.
