Hong Kong – ViuTV’s “King Maker VI” bronze medalist Jacky Fan took the stage at Elements mall on Wednesday for the third installment of the “MOOV 20 Music Station” live concert series, drawing a devoted crowd despite a typhoon delay. The 26-year-old singer, known for his smooth vocals and playful banter, entertained fans with a set of five Cantopop hits and answered a cheeky question from a fellow “King Maker” alumnus.
Fan, who finished third in the popular talent competition, was tasked by previous guest and ERROR band member 193 (Kakishun Kwok) to name which ERROR member was the most “jagged and angular”—a local slang term for unconventional or edgy. Without missing a beat, Fan singled out 193 himself. “I was on my computer when someone tagged me with the question,” Fan explained. “I thought for a moment, and I had my answer: 193. His hairstyle is literally pointy and angular—but in a good-looking, sharp way. So I’m not worried he’ll be mad.”
The performance featured songs including Tomorrow’s Pain Will Pause, Tears of Light, Jagged, and Love Waltz, which roused the audience. Fan also used the platform to pose a playful challenge to next week’s guest, “King Maker VI” champion Teller (Wong Wai-chun), scheduled for August 9. “We’re always together, and I’ve noticed his go-to word is ‘nice,’” Fan said. “I want to know: What other catchphrases does he have besides that?”
The event had been postponed due to Tropical Storm Gaemi, a factor Fan acknowledged with concern for his fans. “After I finished my makeup, it started pouring,” he recalled. “I was really worried they’d get soaked. I’m quite delicate—I catch colds easily. Last time I got caught in the rain, I got sick. So I understand how hard it is for my fans to come out and support me through all the obstacles.”
Fan, who began listening to Cantopop at age six, credited his parents for nurturing his love of music. “The first Cantopop singer I ever heard was Zhang Jingxuan,” he said, referring to Hong Kong star Hins Cheung. “My parents gave me an MP3 player the size of a correction fluid bottle. And I’ve always had a strong urge to perform—I’d sing for relatives without being pushed.”
The “MOOV 20 Music Station” series, running through August, aims to celebrate two decades of the streaming platform with intimate live shows. For Fan, the event was a chance to connect with fans after a tough week of weather and preparation. “It means a lot that they came out,” he said. “I just hope everyone stays safe.”
Jacky Fan’s next public appearance is expected later this month as he continues promoting his original songs and building his post-competition career.
