Hong Kong broadcaster HOY tonight launches its first original sitcom, “Your Security Guard Li Bao An,” a workplace comedy set in the world of estate security. Directed by Ho Kok Tin, the series follows the misadventures of a motley crew of guards at the upscale Linfeng Hai complex, led by the veteran Li Bao An, played by Lee Sheung Ching. The show aims to blend slapstick humor with the daily struggles of a profession often taken for granted.
Premiere and Cast
The series held a press screening on March 23 that drew an enthusiastic response, with previewers praising the show’s fast pacing and strong ensemble chemistry. Director Ho Kok Tin expressed a mix of anxiety and excitement ahead of the broadcast. “I’m thrilled to finally see the show air. It was a joy to work with this talented cast, and I hope audiences not only find it funny but also show it their full support,” he said.
The main cast includes Lee Sheung Ching as Li Bao An, Lo Chung Yan as the luckless Bi Hao Cai, Mak Pui Tung as the reluctant recruit Mai Feng, Wong Yiu Wang as an undercover wealthy heir, and Tsang Yui Chi as the deputy guard. Ho noted that he added Wong to the original trio of “handsome” leads for extra comedic effect.
Episode Highlights
The first four episodes establish the core dynamics. In the opener, a sudden security guard shortage forces Li to stage an unconventional recruitment test, attracting a heartbroken woman and a young man pushed into work by his mother. Li tests their skills with memory and sorting challenges.
In the second episode, new guard Mai Feng uncovers a senior colleague’s secret gambling habit, while still-unemployed Bi Hao Cai consults a feng shui master and unexpectedly lands the job.
The third installment introduces a wealthy heir ordered by his father to work incognito as a guard. He struggles to hide his privileged background, especially when Bi Hao Cai develops a crush on him.
The fourth storyline centers on a smoking‑ban slogan contest. A throwaway entry by Mai Feng goes viral, turning the estate’s stairwell into a tourist attraction and earning him an unwanted promotion to official slogan writer.
Broader Impact
Beyond the laughs, the sitcom touches on themes of class, duty, and perseverance. For HOY, the show marks a significant step into original scripted content, aiming to capture local viewers with relatable, everyday humor.
“Your Security Guard Li Bao An” airs weeknights at 8 p.m. on HOY, with its debut episode available Thursday, March 26.
