Hong Kong – Legendary Cantopop star Alan Tam, affectionately known as “Principal,” continued his emotional “Unforgettable World Tour – Final Chapter” on Friday night, delivering a sold-out performance that left both the singer and his fans in tears. The concert, held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, marked the second segment of his 10-show residency, titled “Unchanging Love Chapter,” following the opening “Gratitude Chapter” on September 15.
The 74-year-old veteran kicked off the Friday show with a revamped setlist, opening with the defiant anthem “Pride” before weaving through a mix of early-career hits, romantic ballads, and cinematic favorites. The night’s centerpiece was the concert’s namesake song, “Unchanging Love,” which drew thunderous applause from the audience.
The most poignant moment came during Tam’s performance of “Friends.” Midway through the song, he stopped singing and urged the crowd of over 10,000 to take over. As fans raised their voices in unison, Tam was visibly moved, wiping away tears on stage. “I’ve sung for you so many times,” he told the audience. “Tonight, I wanted to hear you sing for me.”
The evening also featured high-energy dance numbers, a hallmark of the tour. Tam turned the classic “Love Trap” into an interactive spectacle, handing the microphone to longtime friend and former TVB actress Catherina Tsang, whom he affectionately calls his “cousin.” They were later joined by the “Six Old Brothers”—a dance troupe composed of Tam’s celebrity football teammates, including actors Mo Ka-gan, Wai Chi-ho, Law Kwan-moon, Cheung Chi-hin, and Poon Tsz-fung.
The second night of the “Unchanging Love Chapter” on Saturday drew another star-studded crowd. Among the attendees were veteran actor Felix Wong, actor-singer Hugo Ng and his wife, veteran actor Eddie Kwan and his wife, singer-actor Frankie Lam and actress Kenix Kwok, actors Raymond Lam and Stephen Au, as well as mainland Chinese singer Li Hao and Hong Kong musician Patrick Ng.
Saturday’s performance again stirred deep emotion. Tam choked up while singing “Floating Stage of Art,” another classic from his extensive catalog. Later, during “Love Trap,” he shared the microphone with Lau Yeung, a fellow celebrity football club member and third-place winner of the popular singing competition “Midlife Sing & Shine 3.”
The concert series, which began in mid-September, has drawn A-list attendees including billionaire Joseph Lau and his wife, singer Eason Chan, and actors Michael Hui and Jacqueline Ch’ng. Tam’s ability to command the stage and connect with audiences of all ages underscores his enduring legacy as one of Hong Kong’s most beloved entertainers.
With several shows still ahead, the tour is expected to continue delivering unforgettable moments, blending nostalgia with fresh energy. For fans, the “Final Chapter” is proving to be a fitting tribute to a career that has spanned more than four decades.
