HONG KONG — A beloved Hong Kong radio program from the late 1990s is making a comeback, and one of the city’s biggest stars is celebrating the reunion with an emotional video message. “Wo Zhi Ding,” the classic Metro Radio show hosted by Chan Siu-chi, Yip Man-fai (known as Pear), and Wai Yuk, will return to the airwaves after a 27-year hiatus—prompting actress and singer Cecilia Cheung to record a surprise tribute for her old friends.
Cheung, who rose to fame in 1999 around the same time the show first launched, addressed the trio directly in a video message circulated ahead of the revival. “Wo Zhi Ding is actually traveling from 1999 to 2026,” she said. “Siu-chi, Pear, and Wai Yuk are my close friends. I am very happy that the show is reuniting. A friendship and connection that spans more than two decades is not easy to come by. I will fully support it, and I hope everyone will support the show as well.”
The program originally debuted in 1999 on Metro Radio when Cheung was just beginning her singing career. She appeared as a guest multiple times, forging a strong bond with the three hosts. Over the years, Wai Yuk frequently mimicked Cheung’s mannerisms on air, and Cheung once returned the favor by impersonating Wai Yuk while guest-hosting.
Now, decades later, the team is back—but with a modern twist. Chan Siu-chi explained that because both she and Wai Yuk hold full-time jobs outside of radio, the revived edition will be a weekly “short gathering” of just one hour. “Since Wai Yuk and I both have other careers, the show can only meet for a short hour each week,” Chan said.
Yip Man-fai noted that the program’s audience has grown up alongside the hosts, and the content will evolve to reflect that. “We have all matured together with our listeners,” he said. “The show’s material will change too. We will share life wisdom with everyone.”
Wai Yuk expressed deep gratitude for Cheung’s gesture, calling it a highlight of the reunion. “I am very thankful to Cecilia,” she said. “I feel so blessed that we met through the show back then.”
The reunion of Wo Zhi Ding taps into a wave of nostalgia in Hong Kong’s entertainment scene, where audiences are increasingly seeking connections to the music, personalities, and programs of the 1990s and early 2000s. For longtime listeners, the show’s return offers a rare chance to reconnect with familiar voices and the stars who helped define a generation of Cantopop and radio culture.
No specific premiere date has been announced, but the program is expected to air later this year on Metro Radio. As Cheung’s video made clear, the bond formed in a studio more than two decades ago remains strong—and now, a new chapter is about to begin.
