HONG KONG – Hong Kong hip-hop duo Farmer, comprising musicians Luk Wing and Cheng Sze-kwan (Cheng), revealed Thursday they are juggling multiple responsibilities, including producing music and handling administrative tasks for their forthcoming stage show “Man Group” with actor-singer Louis Cheung.
Speaking at a mobile brand event, the pair acknowledged the mounting pressure of organizing the show, which they are both producing and performing in. Luk Wing joked that he sometimes misses the days when he was merely invited to perform without overseeing logistics.
“I kind of miss the old days when we just showed up and performed without worrying about everything else,” Luk said. “Louis Cheung is having a very comfortable time this go-around, but now I truly understand why he had nightmares when he was the producer.”
Cheng noted that the creative concept for “Man Group” is largely complete, and rehearsals can begin soon. The pair said they were encouraged but also more stressed after the first 10 priority-booking shows sold out within roughly 20 minutes of going on sale. They now face the challenge of public ticket sales and are still deciding whether to add more performances.
The duo spoke about the demands on their time. Luk revealed he is also in the midst of moving houses, though he has delegated all logistics to his wife. “Compared to the show, moving isn’t urgent. It’s not a big deal. After the show is over, I might not even have a home to go back to,” he joked.
Before the premiere of “Man Group,” Farmer is committed to contributing to a concert for their boss, actor and entrepreneur Louis Koo. The pair said they are unsure whether they will be guests. “Whether we are or not, it won’t be a surprise, so it doesn’t matter,” they said.
Looking ahead, the duo hinted they may embark on a tour after “Man Group” concludes. They plan to vary the guest performers for each stop to keep audiences engaged.
“We hope to continue bringing surprises to the audience,” they added.
Farmer has been a staple of Hong Kong’s hip-hop scene since the early 2000s, known for their witty lyrics and comedic performances. The group has transitioned in recent years into television and stage shows, broadening their appeal.
“Man Group” is scheduled to open in the coming weeks at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue.
