Hong Kong rock band Dear Jane fulfilled their annual “September promise” to Macau fans over the Mid-Autumn Festival weekend, making history at the Galaxy Arena. The quartet—vocalist Tim, guitarist Howie, bassist Jackal, and drummer Nice—staged the venue’s first fully standing concert by a Hong Kong act, transforming the floor into a pulsing pit for their “Fly you to the Moon Live” production.
Concert as Festival
The show was conceived as an indoor music festival, a deliberate pivot from traditional arena seating. Attendees were given towels upon entry, which Tim explained were intended for sitting on the floor between songs. The relaxed, “chill” atmosphere the band had long wanted to bring indoors defined the night. The setlist leaned into this vision, swapping straight plays of hit singles for acoustic reworkings and deeper cuts alongside the expected anthems.
Engineering the Moon Landing
A towering mechanized moon dominated the stage, rising, floating, and descending across the venue. In a bold visual move, drummer Nice and his entire kit were hoisted onto the orb, allowing the whole band to “fly” together to a B-stage. The moon climbed higher during the soaring anthem “2084,” bringing fans in the upper levels a rare, close view of the performance.
Tim addressed the ambition head-on, telling the crowd the concert was built on “trial and error.” The band had no guarantees the format would work. “We didn’t know if you would like it,” he said. “Thank you for trusting us.”
Flames shot from the B-stage during later songs, the heat reaching even the upper decks, while the set’s EDM medleys—crafted with DJ Beat Friday—turned the arena into a sprawling Cantopop disco.
Romance Under the Moon
The evening’s emotional peak came when a fan dropped to one knee under the lunar glow. The proposal was met with thunderous applause from the thousands in attendance and immediate cheers from Dear Jane onstage. “Is someone still in a daze?” Tim called out.
Earlier, the band had leaned into the festival spirit with a cheeky Mid-Autumn version of their classic “I Won’t Let You Be One,” re-titled “Mid-Autumn You’re Destined to Be Alone.”
The Encore That Wouldn’t End
After a blistering main set, the audience refused to leave. Dear Jane returned for a double encore. “We really already played extra songs,” bassist Jackal quipped. “The people who stayed are even happier,” Howie added. “Do you know what time it is?”
Tim sat down on the stage, soaking in the cheers. “We’ve got nothing left,” he admitted. “Just this one.” They closed with the tender “Floating Bed,” bringing the night to a fitting close.

Now in its fourth year, the “September promise” has become a signature tradition for Dear Jane and their Macau fanbase. By shattering the venue’s seating convention and investing heavily in custom stagecraft, the band has set a new standard for Hong Kong acts touring the Greater Bay Area. It was a gamble that paid off, proving that the raw energy of a festival ground can thrive inside a modern arena—especially under the glow of a giant moving moon.
