HONG KONG – Hong Kong singer Jer Lau Ying-ting, a member of the popular Cantopop group MIRROR, revealed on Tuesday that while he and actress Charlene Choi (Sa) enjoy friendly mahjong games, their busy schedules have kept them from the card table for some time. Speaking at a brand event alongside Choi, Lau also offered a glimpse into MIRROR’s upcoming variety show and his own solo projects.
Lau, known mononymously as Jer, described Choi and fellow actress Charmaine Sheh as “mahjong masters,” but noted their contrasting styles. “Charlene always has great luck,” Lau said with a smile. “Charmaine, on the other hand, occasionally becomes the ‘fish’ and loses money.” He emphasized that their games are strictly for fun, with only small sums of money involved, describing the pastime as “gambling for enjoyment.”

When asked about fellow MIRROR member Keung To’s recent appearance as a guest at Louis Koo’s Macau concert, Lau joked about the physical demands of such a gig. “If it were me, having Louis Koo carry me—I weigh 77 kilograms—that would be a heavyweight challenge,” he quipped.
Lau also touched on veteran actress Mao Shun-shuen (Miu Kiu-wai), who is currently performing in the stage play The Great Death Support Day. Admitting he has not yet found time to attend, Lau acknowledged her past support at his concerts. “She always makes a point to come to my shows,” he said. “I’m planning to go with my bandmate Edan Lui. Otherwise, she’ll punish me! I’ll also bring some throat lozenges as a gift to cheer her on.”
