HONG KONG – Winka Chen, a member of the popular Hong Kong girl group COLLAR, has released her latest solo single, “Take Good Care of Yourself,” continuing her artistic mission of using music as a tool for emotional healing. The track, accompanied by a home-centric music video co-created with bandmate and director Shen Zhenqiao (Gao), premiered this week, offering fans an unguarded glimpse into Chen’s personal world.
The song, composed and produced by Xu Hao with lyrics by T-Rexx and arrangement by Yikin Lo, revolves around the theme of “love” as a foundation for self-compassion. Chen explained that her definition of love extends beyond romance to include friendships and professional bonds. “I place great importance on love,” she said in a statement. “It’s not limited to romance—it also involves the connections in friendship and work. I deeply value the empathy shared between people, and I believe a world without love would be meaningless. As always, I hope my songs encourage everyone to learn to care for themselves. Even if they haven’t yet, I hope my music can accompany them as they grow.”
The music video picks up where her previous single, “Get Up and Wash Your Face,” left off, once again using her home as the primary setting. Chen noted that she wanted to create a visual link between the two projects. During filming, her cat Tata made an unplanned cameo—an accident that turned into a deliberate highlight. “While we were editing, we realized Tata was incredibly photogenic,” Chen recalled. “Interestingly, it seemed to react to the camera, so we decided to add more shots of it.”
A key element of the video is its intimate, authentic feel, which Chen credits to Gao’s involvement. The two met during the talent competition King Maker IV and have been bandmates ever since. Their deep mutual understanding allowed the shoot to flow naturally. “I once said in an interview that I wanted Gao to direct my MV—I wasn’t joking; I really meant it,” Chen said. “I’ve asked her privately many times, and she always agreed. Now, we’ve finally made it happen. I believe that someone who knows me well will capture a version of me that a stranger director couldn’t. The result feels more personal and layered.”
Looking ahead, Chen jokingly revealed her next goal: to recruit fellow COLLAR member Marife Qiu (Marf) to handle styling for her future projects.
