HONG KONG – A newlywed character’s extravagant spending forces her husband’s diner to the brink of ruin in the latest episode of the popular Hong Kong sitcom Come Home Love: Three Generations of Sweetness, airing Thursday night. The episode, titled “The Counterattack of Landlord Chung,” pits a financially strapped restaurateur against his creative but impulsive wife in a battle of wills that includes a pink maid costume, a homemade “theme café,” and an absurd medical treatment performed with a back scratcher.
The plot centers on the “Happy Corner” diner, owned by Terry, played by veteran actor Li Wai-kin. According to the episode synopsis, the business faces a financial crisis after Terry’s wife, Chu Yuen-yuen, portrayed by Ho Yee-ting, engages in a spending spree. Determined to save the diner, Yuen-yuen launches a bold “theme café” revamp without her husband’s consent, decorating the walls with her own hand-drawn sketches and introducing elaborate new menu items.
Terry, described by the show’s producers as “unable to tolerate” the unilateral changes, confronts his wife, sparking a comedic feud. The conflict escalates when Yuen-yuen feigns illness in a “bitter meat ploy”—a classic dramatic tactic to manipulate her husband’s sympathy. Her act, complete with a pleading tone and exaggerated winks, forces Terry into a corner, leading to a series of hilarious confrontations.
Ho Yee-ting’s performance has drawn early viewer attention. In the episode, she dons a sweet pink maid costume that highlights her signature long legs and adopts a soft, flirtatious voice while serving customers. She also showcases her “high-level pouting and begging skills,” repeatedly demanding that her on-screen husband “take responsibility” for the situation.
However, the show’s standout comic moment comes from Li Wai-kin’s character. Adhering to the traditional principle of “no physical contact between men and women,” Terry refuses to directly apply medicine to his wife’s claimed injury. Instead, he retrieves a household back scratcher—a long wooden stick—to administer the ointment from a distance. While performing this “remote treatment,” he hums a nonsensical, repetitive “stomachache cure song”: “Rub, rub, rub until the tummy doesn’t hurt anymore.” The scene, described by the network as both absurd and hilarious, pushes the couple’s “love-hate relationship” to new comic heights.
