Veteran Hong Kong entertainer Wong Cho Lam has offered a candid glimpse into his evolving career and family life, revealing plans for a new travel series, a self-funded children’s show, and a large-scale Christmas festival. In a recent interview with新城’s 放飯ICU, Wong shared that his upcoming travel program, Blue Friends Travel Buddies, will premiere next week on TVB. The show follows Wong as he leads trainees from The Fok Luk Sau Training Academy—including Lau Cheuk Yan, Ng Siu Lun, and Poon Ching Man—on a culinary and travel tour across mainland China and Vancouver.
A Personal and Professional Return to Vancouver
Wong, whose wife is former actress Leanne Li, noted that the project doubled as a family trip, allowing him to bring their children to visit Li’s hometown. “Whenever I travel for work, I try to bring my family along,” he said. The star also reunited with old friends in Vancouver, including actresses Linda Chung, Selena Li, Tang Pui Yee, and Kayi Cheung.
Creating Content for Kids—Inspired by His Own Daughters
Beyond his on-screen work, Wong has produced a 52-episode children’s drama series that has already aired on China’s national broadcaster, CCTV. He said the inspiration came directly from his two daughters, noting a gap in quality Chinese-language children’s programming. “I realized there weren’t many options, so I decided to create something myself,” he explained. Wong enlisted the help of psychologists to design the show’s content, which aims to teach children how to navigate challenges and emotions.
His daughters serve as the show’s “chief testers,” viewing rough cuts before episodes are finalized. “Their daily lives even inspired some of the characters,” he said, adding that the personal touch makes the series more authentic.

Reflecting on more than a decade of marriage, Wong described his wife as a naturally cheerful person whose anger still looks like a smile. He shared a telling anecdote: after Li spent tens of thousands of yuan on a nail art package in Shanghai, Wong felt frustrated. But when she responded, “You love me because I’m simple, right?” he was left speechless. “All I could say was, ‘Okay, you win,’” he recalled with a laugh.
Wong admitted that marriage has mellowed him, and he credited actress Ada Choi for encouraging him to pursue Li in the first place. “If not for her support, I might have missed out on the love of my life,” he said.

The actor also opened up about raising his eldest daughter, now seven, who recently “broke up” with her first “boyfriend” and quickly found a new one—whose parents are now familiar with Wong’s family. “She says she doesn’t like him anymore, but then invites him to her birthday party and says, ‘I just want him to be happy,’” Wong shared, shaking his head. “She’s completely love-brained!” He urged other parents to maintain open lines of communication with their children. “Don’t let small issues damage the relationship,” he advised.
A Christmas Festival for the Community
Looking ahead, Wong revealed plans for a large-scale Christmas event at West Kowloon’s Bamboo Grove Park at the end of the year. The two-day festival will feature dozens of market stalls operating from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. As 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the “Artists’ Home” Christian fellowship, Wong said the event will include performances from Taiwan’s Huang Guolun and his wife, as well as rapper MC Jin. “We’ll have DJs spinning, and we want everyone—whether they’re religious or not—to come and enjoy the music,” he said.
