HONG KONG – Hong Kong boy band MIRROR is enduring a marathon eight-day filming schedule for ViuTV’s new reality series “MIRROR ACE,” with members showing visible fatigue as they wrapped their third night of shooting at a Causeway Bay sports venue Wednesday.
The 12-member group is facing what leader Yang Lok-man (Lokman) called their toughest challenge yet: rising before sunrise and working until after sunset. “We start before the sun comes up and we’re still not done when it goes down,” he said. The show features both team and individual tasks spanning physical endurance, psychological tests, and games of human deduction—but no sharing of personal feelings. “The brief was to have fun and be happy,” Lokman added. “This time we might laugh until we cry.”
Deputy leader Kong Ying-sang (AK) confirmed the production company is offering cash bonuses instead of prize draws, calling it a generous gesture.
One highlight of the series pits MIRROR against women’s snooker champion Ng On-yee. Member Wong Chi-tak (Alton) described the match as a comedic free-for-all. “We used all kinds of dirty tricks,” he said, noting the game was designed for entertainment rather than formal competition. Lokman revealed that some members struggle with comprehension, needing rules repeated multiple times. Without naming names, the group’s eyes collectively turned to Lo Hon-ting (Anson Lo), who looked embarrassed. Fellow member Lui Cheuk-on (Edan) quickly took the blame: “It’s me, it’s me!”
Anson Lo recently missed a trip to Japan with Lee Chun-kit (Jeremy), who instead traveled with Edan. Jeremy insisted he had invited Anson Lo, but scheduling conflicts interfered. “Our schedules didn’t match,” Anson Lo explained. “I’ve been filming a drama—halfway done, with over a month to go. Many days I work nearly 20 hours. Everyone is sleep-deprived, sometimes even sick. But we’re giving it our all for quality results, and that’s worth it.”
Earlier, Anson Lo posted a shirtless photo online showcasing his toned physique. Despite his packed schedule, he said he maintains his fitness routine. “I just wanted to document it,” he said. “It’s not easy, so keeping a record motivates me not to give up.”
The series, which debuted this month, is expected to air weekly on ViuTV, offering fans a deeper, more candid look at the band’s dynamics under pressure. As MIRROR continues to dominate Hong Kong’s entertainment scene, “MIRROR ACE” underscores the intense demands placed on the group both on and off stage.
