HONG KONG – EXO leader Suho (Kim Jun-myeon), Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing, and Hong Kong singer Jay Fung joined a star-studded fashion gathering Monday, where they discussed the qualities that define modern style icons and reflected on their personal connections to the city.
The event, which also featured actress Josie Ho alongside her husband, actor Conroy Chan, and newcomer Iman, drew a crowd of press and fans to the Hong Kong venue. Suho, dressed in a navy-inspired suit with sailor details, engaged with photographers by waving and forming heart shapes with his hands.
The K-pop idol pointed to a crossbody bag as his favorite element of the outfit, explaining that its practicality suits his habit of carrying multiple items when out and about.
Defining an Icon
When asked what makes a true fashion or cultural icon, Suho emphasized individuality above all else.
“The most important thing is to have personality,” he said. “Whether in acting, singing, or clothing, you need personal characteristics to highlight your uniqueness. For me, both music and acting rely on passion — that is my driving force. And, of course, the fans are most important; they push me to keep improving.”
Suho noted he has visited Hong Kong many times for work and concerts. The city’s night skyline has left a lasting impression.
“Every time I see the night view, I remember coming here with my group members and going to eat dim sum together,” he recalled. He thanked fans for supporting his recent solo concert and for showing up at the event. “Seeing so many fans waiting for me makes me very happy. I hope to return soon, and next time I want to come with a new album before holding another concert.”
Fan Bingbing on Elegance and Craft
Fan Bingbing arrived in a shimmering gold dress, matching accessories, and heels, drawing attention with her polished look. She revealed that her relationship with the hosting brand spans more than 20 years.
On the qualities of an icon, Fan said: “Whether male or female, attitude toward freedom, work, and career is extremely important.”
Asked how she maintains her elegance and charisma, she laughed and responded: “Everyone gives me so much love that I don’t want to disappoint them. I hope to repay that love with my persistence and strength, and also pass strength to those who love me.”
She stressed that acting requires a craftsman’s dedication — a principle she considers essential for any serious performer.
The event highlighted the growing cross-pollination between K-pop, Chinese cinema, and Hong Kong entertainment, with each star offering a distinct perspective on how authenticity and passion underpin lasting influence in the fashion and entertainment worlds. As global audiences increasingly look to Asian pop culture for style cues, moments like this showcase the evolving definitions of what it means to be an icon today.
