Hong Kong Pop Star Sammi Cheng Postpones 2026 Tour Finale Due to Stage Equipment Failure

HONG KONG — Hong Kong pop superstar Sammi Cheng has postponed her highly anticipated three-night concert series scheduled for July 2026 at the Kai Tak Sports Park Main Stadium, after a critical stage component malfunctioned and could not be replaced in time, organizers announced Monday.

The concerts, billed as the finale of Cheng’s “You & Mi Sammi Cheng Concert 2026 Asia Tour,” were originally set for July 10, 11, and 12. They will now take place nearly a year later, on May 28, 29, and 30, 2027, all starting at 7:30 p.m. at the same venue.

Promoter Media Asia said the decision to delay came after a major stage part failed, and replacement components were unavailable ahead of the scheduled performances, making it impossible to proceed safely.

Ticket Options for Fans

Attendees holding valid physical tickets for the affected dates have two choices:

  • Attend the rescheduled show: Fans keep their original tickets and stub, and can enter the venue for the corresponding replacement date using their existing seat assignment. No exchange or re-registration is required.
  • Request a refund: Starting September 3, 2026 at 10 a.m. through October 14, 2026 at 6 p.m. (a six-week window), ticket holders may apply for refunds through their original purchase channel.

Refund Procedures by Channel

The promoter outlined specific refund processes based on how tickets were purchased:

  • East Asia Bank credit card priority bookings and HK Ticketing public sales: HK Ticketing will email instructions. After verification, refunds will be processed to the original payment account. Only the face value of the ticket will be refunded; customer service and delivery fees are non-refundable.
  • Ctrip or Trip.com package buyers: Notifications will be sent during the same period. Refunds go to the original payment method, but platform service fees are not included.
  • Internal orders: The promoter will contact buyers directly. Administrative fees are forfeited.
  • Fan club “Three Rice Group” members: Must monitor the official Facebook page for details.
  • Cathay “Taste” exchange or Damai purchases: Respective platforms will notify buyers.

Important Caveats

Organizers stressed that fans who have not yet collected their tickets should do so promptly and contact their purchase channel for assistance. Lost or damaged tickets will not be honored for entry to the replacement shows. Once a refund application is successfully processed, the original ticket becomes void.

All refund applications must be submitted by 6 p.m. on October 14, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted. Media Asia reserves the right to modify arrangements and holds final decision authority.

Broader Implications

The postponement highlights the engineering challenges involved in staging large-scale productions at the newly opened Kai Tak Sports Park, a flagship venue expected to host major international events. For Cheng, whose career spans over three decades, the delay means her tour finale—already one of the most anticipated pop events in Asia—will now cap off 2027 rather than 2026.

Fans who held out hope for a July 2026 homecoming concert now face a nearly year-long wait. The incident also raises questions about supply chain reliability for bespoke stage equipment in the live entertainment industry, an issue that has plagued tours globally since the pandemic.
