Louis Koo Makes Historic Hong Kong Coliseum Debut After 33-Year Career

HONG KONG — After more than three decades in the entertainment industry, actor-singer Louis Koo finally stepped onto the Hong Kong Coliseum stage for the first time Monday night, launching his long-awaited “MY FIRST SHOW” concert series.

The 53-year-old star arrived at the venue in the afternoon wearing overalls and sunglasses for final rehearsals, followed by a traditional blessing ceremony at 3 p.m. Local time. The ritual, common for major Hong Kong performances, included band leader Tsui Ho and longtime collaborator Jessica Hester Hsuan, with Koo’s own artist under his management, Hu Tsz-yin, also in attendance. Hu was seen using a personal camera to document the proceedings. The group concluded the ceremony by cutting a roasted pig, a Chinese custom meant to bring good luck.

Koo, who entered the industry in the early 1990s, has built a reputation primarily as a film actor with over 100 movies to his credit, including starring roles in “Election” and the “Twins Effect” series. While he has occasionally released music, this marks his first-ever live concert series after 33 years in show business.

Concert Details and Special Guests

The Hong Kong Coliseum shows are scheduled for two nights, after which the production will move to The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena on August 29 and 30. Organizers have confirmed that each performance will feature a heavyweight guest performer, though names have not been disclosed as of press time.

Official Merchandise Store Draws Crowds

A three-day official pop-up store opened Monday at a shopping mall adjacent to the Coliseum, offering an extensive range of limited-edition merchandise. Items include T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, tote bags, caps, umbrellas, CD players, candles, power banks, posters, a Q‑version figurine of Koo, and vinyl records.

Among the most eye-catching items is Hong Kong’s first “cartridge-shaped” vinyl record, which took Koo six months to develop. The disc is molded in the shape of his cartoon likeness, making it a distinctive collector’s piece.

To coincide with the concert, Koo has released a new album titled “The Present,” featuring new songs and a greatest hits collection. The pop-up store offers a double-cover vinyl edition of the album.

Fans Line Up for Hours

Before the store’s official opening at 5 p.m. Sunday, a large crowd had already gathered, with a life-sized Q‑version Koo figurine set up for photo opportunities. By around 7 p.m., the queue stretched to approximately 200 to 300 people. The most popular item, the limited daily-release T-shirts, sold out within hours, while vinyl records also posted strong sales.

Broader Impact and Next Steps

Koo’s debut at the iconic Hong Kong Coliseum — a venue that has hosted concerts by global superstars including Michael Jackson and local legends like Jacky Cheung — signifies a new chapter for the actor whose career has largely been defined by film. The move also reflects a growing trend among Hong Kong celebrities to diversify into live performances and collectible merchandise, tapping into fan loyalty as the entertainment industry recovers post-pandemic.

For fans unable to attend the Hong Kong shows, the Macau dates offer an alternative. Limited-edition items are expected to remain available online through select retailers, though no official channels have been confirmed.
