KUALA LUMPUR – Hong Kong music icons Joey Yung and Gin Lee joined their label head, Albert Yeung, in the Malaysian capital on Tuesday for the grand opening of a high-end jewelry boutique, dazzling attendees with rare diamond pieces while Yung offered a glimpse into her preparations for a major upcoming concert.
Yung, who will headline the new Kai Tak Main Stadium in Hong Kong next January, donned a suite of precious gems valued in the millions. Speaking to fans and media, she acknowledged mounting anticipation just over three months before showtime. “I’m a bit nervous, but after all these years in the industry, I’ve learned the value of stillness amid the chaos of rehearsals,” Yung said. “I want to stand on that stage with the same confidence and perfection as these jewels—shining with their own light.”
The singer expressed gratitude to the crowd of fans who had gathered at the boutique, many of whom had been waiting since her last tour stop in Genting Highlands in 2022. “I know you’ve been hoping I’d come back,” she added. “I hope to have good news to share with you soon.”
For Malaysia-born Gin Lee, the event was a homecoming. Greeting the audience in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, she said, “It feels so grounding to be back.” Lee, who rose to fame in Hong Kong after competing on “The Voice of China,” delighted local guests by pledging to take her team on a food tour. “I want to be a proper host and treat them to the real deal—authentic bak kut teh, char kway teow, and all the street food I grew up loving,” she said.
The boutique opening, hosted by Emperor Group, marks another high-profile retail expansion in Southeast Asia, a region where Cantopop remains deeply popular. Both artists’ appearances underscored a strategic push by the label to strengthen ties with overseas Chinese audiences.
Looking ahead, Yung’s January concert at Kai Tak—the territory’s newest 50,000-seat venue—is expected to be a landmark event. The stadium, which hosted its first large-scale test event earlier this year, represents a new chapter for Hong Kong’s live entertainment scene. For fans hoping for a regional tour, Yung’s hint at “good news” suggests Malaysia and other Southeast Asian stops may be on the horizon.
