SITCOM CHARACTER MOMO RESORTS TO SABOTAGE IN CUTTHROAT POPULARITY BATTLE

HONG KONG — Tonight’s episode of the TVB sitcom Love Home: Three Generations of Sweetness plunges viewers into a fierce popularity contest where desperation drives rival contestant Jiabing (Che Wan Wan) to take extreme measures and top-ranked Momo (Qiu Zhiwei) hits below the belt. Dropped to 99th place in a 100-contestant ranking for the talent show, Jiabing enlists her granddaughter Tang Xin (Li Yingtong) to help gather votes and unexpectedly crashes a live stream by Hannah (Hu Minzhi), briefly stealing the spotlight. However, her actions provoke Momo, who retaliates with vicious physical and verbal attacks during a dance segment.

TENSIONS ESCALATE ON SET

As the episode unfolds, Jiabing’s attempts to regain traction are met with cruel mockery from Momo, who sees the older contestant as easy prey. In a dance rehearsal, Momo deliberately trips, elbows, and shoves Jiabing to secure the center position, while Tang Xin, who accompanies her grandmother, is verbally humiliated when she tries to intervene. The scene underscores the ruthless dynamics of the competition.

REAL-LIFE PARALLELS FOR ACTRESS

Qiu Zhiwei, who plays the antagonistic Momo, is known to audiences for her role as Jia Mingyuan in the sister sitcom Love Home: Happiness Express. This new role allows her to showcase her dual-faced persona again, but with a musical twist. Interestingly, Qiu was a contestant on the first season of Midlife Good Voice, a real-life talent show that shares similarities with the fictional one in the episode. She even once topped the show’s official social media popularity poll.

In a statement, Qiu reflected on the serendipity of the role. “I’m truly honored to act alongside Che Wan Wan. It brings back memories of my own experience on Midlife Good Voice, where I was interviewed by her while in tears on stage. This connection feels quite special.”

FROM VILLAINY TO REALITY

Qiu was quick to note that the dirty tricks in the episode are purely for comedic effect. “In real life, participants in Midlife Good Voice were all passionately chasing their dreams with mutual respect. There was no backstabbing,” she said. “The production team put great effort into authenticity, with live recordings and choreography. I cherish this opportunity to present my singing talent to the audience.”

She hopes that this role will help audiences see her as a multifaceted entertainer. “I want people to remember me not just as Jia Mingyuan or Momo, but also as Qiu Zhiwei, a singer.”

As Love Home: Three Generations of Sweetness continues to blend humor with family and competitive threads, tonight’s episode offers a mix of laughs and tension. The show airs weeknights on TVB, promising more engaging storylines with contemporary themes.
