Three celebrities shared personal anecdotes about spending habits, new parenthood, and upcoming projects at a trading card game event in Hong Kong on Wednesday night.
Singer-actor Ng Yip Kwan, rapper-actor Kwok Ka Chun (known as 193), and entrepreneur-event organizer Chung Pui San gathered at a promotional event for Chung’s card game venture, offering frank insights into their finances, family lives, and career plans.
Ng: ‘My cards are only worth a few hundred dollars’
Ng joked that his personal card collection is modest, valued at just a few hundred Hong Kong dollars, and that he cannot afford to splurge on rare cards priced at over HK$100,000. “My car’s windshield cracked and needed replacement, plus I have to fund my new music production,” he said. “I have to work hard to earn money.”
The singer revealed he recently traveled with fellow artist Hubert Wu for concerts in Toronto and Los Angeles. After the shows, he toured Death Valley and Antelope Canyon with his wife. Ng also addressed a recent social media sighting in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where fans spotted him with actor Tsang Chin-mong. He explained they were filming a sequel to the food show Try Real D with actress Kong Mei-yi.
“I don’t like wasting food,” Ng said, describing the demanding schedule of visiting four to five restaurants daily and finishing every dish. “It was tough, and I gained weight. Since I’m competing in a karate tournament at the end of the year, I have to train hard once I’m back in Hong Kong.”
193: Stock losses outweigh card collecting
Kwok, known for his candid style, admitted his varied hobbies—trading cards, toy cars, spinning tops, and fashion—have cost him significant sums, but all are dwarfed by his stock market losses. “Fortunately, I haven’t lost everything,” he quipped. “The market is tough this year. Money isn’t easy to come by, so I’m being more careful now. I only invest in things with appreciation potential.”
Looking ahead, Kwok expressed excitement about meeting NBA star Kawhi Leonard at an event next week. He has prepared a jersey for autographing. “I will never give that signed jersey to anyone else,” he said firmly. Kwok also wrapped a variety show project reuniting with the cast of the Dice Game series, including Lee Chun-kit, Ng Siu-hin, Lui Hou-kuen, and Ng Bing, with new additions Stanley Yau and Shen Zhen-qiao. He said he is eager for its broadcast.
Chung: New father, family-first mindset
Chung, who recently welcomed a daughter with his wife Chong Yee-ting, praised her as a wonderful mother. “Becoming a dad has made me more family-oriented,” he said. “I rush home after work to take care of my wife and child.” He also gave his wife a gift. His family, he added, is now his motivation to work.
Chung revealed his wife worked until just two days before giving birth and returned to her job after her postpartum confinement period. “I feel for her, but I respect her decision,” he said.
When asked about a recent social media post from Chong showing a private conversation about his “baby-making plan,” Chung laughed. “The government offers a HK$20,000 newborn bonus for each child. I love my country and Hong Kong, so I want to support the policy by claiming as many bonuses as possible—and fast, before budget cuts cancel the scheme.”
