HONG KONG — Celebrated Hong Kong rock band Dear Jane and vocal artist Ken Lo recently engaged with fans at the 23rd Hong Kong Winter Feast, providing updates on their holiday plans, upcoming tours, and significant personal milestones, including a surprise marriage announcement from one of the band members.
The event, which took place in Hong Kong, saw the musicians share a unified pivot from demanding showbiz schedules to prioritizing domestic life. Dear Jane’s candid discussion highlighted a shared sentiment among the aging rockers: a preference for quiet family time over the city’s famed nightlife.
Dear Jane Prioritizes Domesticity, Announces Hidden Vows
Following their performance, the members of Dear Jane indicated that the festive period would involve low-key gatherings. Lead vocalist Tim Wong (Ah Tim) detailed his plans: a family outing that includes treating his children and wife to a buffet, followed by a sightseeing tour aboard a local iconic double-decker bus.
The conversation took a surprising turn when guitarist Howie confessed to having secretly married approximately a year and a half ago. While seeking advice from his three married bandmates on how to keep a spouse happy, Howie casually revealed his marital status.
“I found my partner, and we tied the knot about a year and a half ago,” Howie stated. “After Jackal [the band’s bassist] got married, it was my turn. I simply hadn’t shared the news publicly.” He clarified that his partner is a private individual, unconnected to the entertainment field.
Dear Jane also extended congratulations to former Commercial Radio DJ Kitty Yuen (Siu Yi), who recently announced her own marriage. Ah Tim expressed limited surprise, noting that Yuen seemed like someone who keeps her private life guarded. Howie added that he “had a feeling” she was already married.
Looking ahead, Dear Jane is gearing up for a major year. In late January, they will host a 20th-anniversary signing session to promote the upcoming Blu-ray release of their May Hong Kong concert. Their extensive 2024 tour schedule begins in March, encompassing major stops across North America, including the United States and Canada, as well as performances in Singapore, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.
The rockers expressed confidence in their longevity, asserting their belief that they have “at least another two decades” of music ahead.
Ken Lo Shifts Focus to Traditional Album Release
Meanwhile, singer Ken Lo (羅啟豪), a prominent figure from Midlife, Sing! (Season 2), discussed his immediate musical ambitions, focusing heavily on delivering new material to his fanbase.
Lo revealed he is prioritizing the creation of holiday music, opting to release an original Christmas track this year to satisfy fans while patiently compiling songs for a full album. His ultimate goal for the coming year is to release his debut personal album, viewing a physical “disc” as a critical, traditional milestone in any singer’s career.
“I hold a fairly traditional view,” Lo commented. “Releasing an album is a major achievement for a singer, so my focus next year will be on deeply immersing myself in music composition.”
Lo also shared his observations on the latest season of the reality singing competition, Midlife, Sing! 4, noting that the addition of masked celebrity contestants has injected novelty into the format. He praised the quality of both the professional singers and amateur contestants, observing that the caliber of non-professional participants improves with each passing season—a trend he joked made him fortunate to have participated earlier in the show’s run.
Both Dear Jane and Ken Lo are demonstrating a commitment to sustained productivity, balancing rigorous touring and recording schedules with newfound contentment in private and family life, marking a mature, reflective phase in their respective careers.
