Hong Kong actors Wei Jiaxiong and Chen Xiaohua recently appeared on Xue Jiayan’s radio program “Happy Party” to promote their collaborative drama “Death Has Evidence,” sharing personal memories, playful banter, and reflections on their careers.
Wei Jiaxiong, a longtime figure in Hong Kong television, looked back on his work with Xue on the 1995 series “True Love.” Chen Xiaohua, who had seen stills from the show, told Wei she was amazed that he looks nearly the same after more than three decades. In a lighthearted dig, Wei joked that TVB’s current talent policies are so broad that the network signs livestock—a humorous reference to Chen’s recent contract with the company.
Wei offered measured praise for Chen’s performance in “Death Has Evidence,” commending her work while encouraging continued growth. “Her performance deserves recognition, but she should not be satisfied easily because there is still much room for improvement,” he said. On the subject of awards, Wei predicted that Chen will secure a Best Actress trophy eventually. “It’s only a matter of time,” he noted, adding that he personally considers audience appreciation as the most meaningful recognition.
Chen, in turn, downplayed her award prospects, saying she still has a long way to go, but expressed full support for Wei in his pursuit of Best Actor honors. She said she enjoys Wei’s teasing and stays sharp in their interactions, admitting she needs to be on high alert to keep pace with his humor.
When asked about the drama’s reception, Wei acknowledged its solid ratings and favorable reviews but said a sequel is not planned due to the producer’s departure. Both actors expressed interest in working together on other projects to continue their mentor-student relationship.
Chen is currently filming “Demon Express,” a drama filled with action sequences that have caused her to lose weight. She addressed speculation about posting swimsuit pictures on social media after co-star Dai Zuyi shared similar photos. Chen said she remains undecided, worrying that her figure may revert after filming ends. She is considering having a friend take the pictures but has not settled on a swimsuit style.
The interview offered a window into the bond between two generations of Hong Kong talent. With Wei Jiaxiong mentoring and Chen Xiaohua rising in the industry, their partnership underscores the blend of wisdom and energy that continues to shape local entertainment.
