ViuTV today laid out its ambitions for 2027 at a programming showcase in Hong Kong’s Mongkok district, unveiling a lineup of six scripted dramas and 13 original variety series built heavily around the network’s deep roster of homegrown idol talent and strategic creative partnerships.
Dramas Blend Romance with High-Stakes Suspense
The drama slate leans hard on crowd-pulling star power. Leading the scripted offerings is Why Secretary Kim, an adaptation of the popular Korean office romance starring MIRROR member Anson Lo (盧瀚霆) and Ivy So (蘇雅琳). The network is also stacking the deck with award-winning singer Kay Tse and actress Stephy Tang, who will co-lead The Perfect Disguise, a series centered on female-driven corporate intrigue.
ViuTV’s ongoing partnership with iconic production house Galaxy Pictures is yielding two titles. Black Heart Forest, fronted by AK (江𤒹生), explores a ruthless world of ambition and moral compromise. Love Quicksand, meanwhile, casts Dee (何啟華) and Stanley (邱士縉) in a suspense-driven narrative in the Galaxy vein.
Actor Phoebus (吳啟洋) is pulling double duty, co-starring with George (歐鎮灝) and Candy (王家晴) in the youth romance Heartbeat Diary, and anchoring Super Nurse, a medical drama following the challenges of a rookie nurse alongside Sham, Chan Yin Yan, and So Yuk Wa.
Variety Shows Return and Expand
The variety wing is equally packed. Error leader Fatty (梁業) teams up with musician Brian (李凱賢) for a Malaysian food expedition in Eat Up Malaysia. The network is betting big on global formats with a local adaptation of the high-stakes game show The Cube, hosted by Dee. The host promised top prizes, including up to HK$200,000 in cash and MIRROR concert tickets, a move signaling the network’s push for major weekend draw.
Following the success of its first season, The Company Forced Me to Play Basketball is getting a sequel, The Company Forced Me to Play Basketball Again, with Candy Wang and George Au returning alongside ROVER members.
Personal narratives add depth to the schedule. Fan-favorite director Mike (劉諾衡), recently recovered from a fractured foot sustained while rock climbing, will spearhead the game competition series NPC Adventure, capitalizing on his popular on-screen persona.
A Calculated Bet on Star Power
MIRROR members are also driving solo projects. Alton (王智德) will co-host Living in the Wild Australia with Louisa (練美娟), while Frankie (陳瑞輝) leads the animal rescue show Handsome Animal Rescue. The remainder of the slate fills out with diverse titles including Chef Junior, the idol audition All-Round Girl Selection, travelogue Orbit Trip, and late-night food exploration Late Night Gourmet.
By licensing proven international formats like The Cube and doubling down on breakout hits alongside high-concept original dramas, ViuTV is aiming for schedule stability and audience retention. For Hong Kong viewers, the 2027 lineup promises a heavy dose of familiar faces stepping into an expanded range of roles, both scripted and unscripted, as the network continues to cement its influence in a fiercely competitive entertainment landscape.
