Hong Kong broadcaster TVB kicked off its 59th anniversary celebrations on Nov. 19 by releasing a promotional campaign that highlights four figures central to its legacy—veteran actress Wai Ming, comedienne Ka-Yan Sit, former Miss Hong Kong Kong Mei Wan, and host Chi-Fung Tang. The initiative aims to reconnect with audiences as the network prepares for its 60th anniversary.
The campaign, produced by TVB’s Corporate Communications Department’s Brand Communication Division, carries the slogan “TVB Walks Closer with You, Goes Further.” It seeks to underscore the network’s historical role in shaping Hong Kong entertainment while building anticipation for the milestone year ahead.
Wai Ming, a fixture at TVB for more than five decades, stars in the first video. She began her career on the variety show “Enjoy Yourself Tonight” (EYT), where she developed skills in comedy, drama, and music. In her remarks, she credited TVB for its focus on talent development, saying the network always provides performers with the tools to grow. She recalled the launch of TVB in 1967, calling it a transformative moment for television in Hong Kong.
Wai Ming expressed optimism about TVB’s future, attributing its endurance to a commitment to evolution. “The network has always kept pace with the times,” she said, adding that this adaptability positions it well for continued success. Her career, spanning genres from slapstick to historical dramas, exemplifies TVB’s nurturing environment.
The campaign continues with the other featured personalities. Ka-Yan Sit, known for her comedic roles in dramas, represents the network’s entertainment offerings. Kong Mei Wan, a Miss Hong Kong winner who later became a businesswoman and philanthropist, symbolizes TVB’s pageantry tradition. Chi-Fung Tang, a versatile host with decades of experience, embodies its programming diversity. Together, they reflect the breadth of content that has defined TVB for generations.
TVB has been a dominant force in Cantonese media since its founding, producing iconic series and launching the careers of many stars. It has faced challenges from streaming platforms but retains a strong cultural footprint across Chinese communities. The campaign emphasizes the network’s ability to adapt while honoring its heritage.
Wai Ming’s praise for TVB’s training programs highlights a key element of its success. By investing in performers and encouraging versatility, the network has built a talent pipeline that sustained its output for decades. She noted that TVB’s philosophy of “always moving forward” has kept it relevant.
As TVB approaches its 60th anniversary, the campaign signals a focus on legacy combined with innovation. The network is expected to roll out additional initiatives that blend traditional programming with digital expansion, aiming to attract both long-time viewers and younger audiences.
The series of promotional videos will air over the coming weeks, reinforcing TVB’s connection to its audience. With a mix of nostalgia and forward-looking messaging, the network positions itself for the next chapter in Hong Kong broadcasting.
