Top Hong Kong Television Honors Awarded at Macau Ceremony

Macau, SAR – The prestigious TVB Anniversary Awards 2025 concluded tonight, establishing new milestones in Hong Kong television and generating several emotional moments on the stage in Macau. The focal point of the evening arrived as actor Matthew Ho secured his first major acting accolade, winning the Best Supporting Actor award.

The presentation of the award, overseen by seasoned actor Law Kar-ying and emerging talent Kalok Chow, began with a humorous interlude. Before announcing the winner, the ceremony broadcast a compilation of lighthearted clips from the variety program Seeing the World with Liza Wang, featuring Chow and the iconic television host Liza Wang. This prompted a playfully jealous reaction from Law Kar-ying, who then publicly “adopted” Chow as a younger brother figure, eliciting laughter from the audience and setting a jovial tone for the main announcement.

Matthew Ho was honored for his compelling performance in the critical smash-hit drama The Queen of News 2. Upon receiving the statuette, Ho was visibly overwhelmed, shedding tears on stage. Law Kar-ying stepped in to offer a comforting gesture, wiping away the actor’s tears.

During his acceptance speech, Ho reflected on his journey, recalling his 2018 win for Most Improved Male Artiste (known as the ‘Flying Leap’ in his translation). “I had mentally prepared myself that I would not be receiving another award for a long time,” Ho admitted, his voice thick with emotion. “I believed the next award would only come after offering significantly greater effort than I did on the day I received that initial recognition.”

Ho then directed a heartfelt tribute to his co-star, Charmaine Sheh, who was seated in the front row and nominated for her leading role. Known for the formidable “Man-jie” character in the series, Sheh was moved to tears by Ho’s acknowledgment, further intensifying the emotional atmosphere of the night.

Beyond his professional colleagues, Ho extended profound gratitude to his family and his significant other, thanking them for their unwavering support. He concluded his speech on a high note, expressing a deep sense of optimism. “I declare that this year will be a year of happiness for me,” he stated, his words resonating with the culmination of years of dedicated work in the industry.

Ho’s win underscores the intense competition within the popular series The Queen of News 2 and signals an important career ascent for the actor. The TVB Anniversary Awards, a key annual event recognizing excellence in television across the Greater China region, continues to be a crucial platform for both established and rising stars in the entertainment landscape. The ceremony serves to highlight compelling narratives and performances that define the cultural zeitgeist in Hong Kong television production.
