Korean actors Park Hyung-sik and Kim Yoo-jung, together with Hong Kong actress-singer Lin Ke-ling, walked the red carpet at the Hong Kong premiere of the film “BRUNELLO” on Thursday, drawing hundreds of cheering fans and showcasing the growing cultural exchange between the Korean and Hong Kong entertainment industries.
Park Hyung-sik, best known for his leading roles in “Strong Girl Bong-soon” and the Korean adaptation of “Suits,” immediately engaged with the crowd. He approached the fan zone, waving and greeting supporters whose chants filled the venue. During an interview, he spoke warmly of his connection to Hong Kong cinema. “I grew up watching Hong Kong films. ‘Chungking Express’ left a particularly strong impression on me, and I have deep respect for actors like Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung,” he said. Park also revealed plans to return to the city after completing his current drama and film projects. “If my schedule allows, I would love to hold a fan meeting in Hong Kong and share a happy time with everyone,” he added.
Kim Yoo-jung, celebrated for her performances in “Love in the Moonlight” and the recently aired “100 Days My Prince,” received an enthusiastic welcome. Her drama has earned positive reviews, and she expressed gratitude for the continued support. With a playful tone, she imagined herself as a photographer exploring Hong Kong. “I would love to capture the beautiful scenery across Hong Kong and especially ride the Crystal Cable Car,” she said.
Lin Ke-ling, a rising star in both music and acting, attended the premiere just after the finale of her ViuTV drama “Devil Advocate.” She became emotional during a live broadcast, saying she was moved by the audience’s warm response. “The show had a fresh concept, and I didn’t expect such love from viewers. It really touched me,” she explained.
She also watched the series with her mother, veteran actress Gong Ci’en, who gave her professional feedback. “My mother analyzes my performance from an actress’s perspective. She tells me where I didn’t do well. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I hope to show improvement in my next project,” Lin said.
When asked about online criticism of a kiss scene with actor Wei Junheng—some suggested he was too involved and ignored his girlfriend Evelyn’s feelings—Lin defended the couple. “People underestimate Evelyn. She was on set overseeing the shoot. She is not just Wei’s girlfriend; she is a professional manager. Wei’s success today is largely thanks to her management,” Lin stated.
On being compared to her mother’s looks, Lin humbly said that Gong Ci’en was more beautiful in her youth and that each generation has its own standard of beauty.
The premiere highlighted the enduring appeal of Korean stars in Hong Kong and the mutual appreciation between the two film industries. As the Hallyu wave continues to expand, events like this create meaningful opportunities for cross-cultural connection and future collaboration.
