Four celebrity judges were unveiled Monday for the “Most Photogenic” award at the 2026 Miss Hong Kong pageant, with panelists Michael Tse, Philip Ng, Christine Kuo and Agnes Chan sharing their candid criteria—ranging from facial symmetry to swimsuit poise—during a press conference in Hong Kong.
The quartet will serve as the judging panel for the prestigious category during the pageant’s final night. For Tse and Ng, it marks their first time evaluating contestants for a Miss Hong Kong title. Both actors emphasized that “photogenic” goes far beyond a polished social-media image.
“Being photogenic is an abstract concept. We aren’t selecting a ‘filter queen,’ so it’s essential to see the contestants in person,” said Tse, a veteran actor known for his roles in Hong Kong television dramas. “We look for whether the person is sharp and striking in real life, whether facial features are symmetrical, and whether their overall appearance is pleasing. High educational background adds a scholarly aura. Even the physique must be photogenic—how they pose, whether they convey a sense of line and beauty, and the right accents should stand out. But I suspect we’ll have to wait until the swimsuit segment to truly assess that.”
Tse joked that this was the first time he had “official permission” to openly observe female contestants without scrutiny.
Ng, a martial arts actor and stunt coordinator, stressed that his role is strictly professional. When asked if his girlfriend, actress Li Manying, had given her approval, he laughed: “She’s in the same industry—we both see plenty of attractive people every day. She doesn’t get jealous when she sees handsome guys, and I know kung fu.” Ng said the most critical factor for him is the contestant’s confidence when meeting face-to-face. “Confidence draws people in. But these candidates are so highly educated that I almost feel intimidated being a judge.”
Pressed on whether his personal taste mirrors his girlfriend’s looks, Ng promptly deflected with a romantic quip: “She asked me who is the most photogenic. I told her: you, of course.”
The panel also includes Kuo and Chan, both well-known figures in Hong Kong entertainment. The 2026 Miss Hong Kong pageant, organized by TVB, remains one of the city’s most watched annual events, drawing thousands of applicants each year. This year’s competition places renewed emphasis on authenticity over digital enhancement—a trend in line with broader industry pushes for natural beauty.
Analysts note that the pageant’s “Most Photogenic” award often serves as a bellwether for emerging talent, with past winners frequently securing media and modeling contracts.
