Hong Kong film and television legend Patrick Tse, affectionately known as “Four哥,” passed away on March 16 at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy spanning more than seven decades in the entertainment industry.
The news was confirmed by longtime collaborator and friend Liza Wang, a renowned Hong Kong actress and singer, who shared an emotional tribute on social media. Wang recalled their close professional and personal bond, noting they had worked together on five television dramas between 1979 and 1984: “Rainbow” (1979), “The King of Gamblers” (1980), “The Shell Game” (1981), “Love and Passion” (1982), and “Qiu Jin” (1984).
“I was fortunate to have worked alongside Four哥 in five TV series,” Wang wrote. “We weren’t just good partners on screen. His daughter,婷婷, is also my goddaughter. Our families were close.”
Tse’s career was nothing short of monumental. Over his lifetime, he appeared in approximately 200 films, earning widespread acclaim. In his later years, he achieved a career pinnacle by winning the Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, a testament to his enduring talent and versatility. She added: “Four哥 was a good man. His brilliant smile and his ever-elegant, dashing demeanor will surely remain in our hearts forever.”
Wang concluded her tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “I am deeply saddened and will always miss Four哥. Rest in peace.”
