Former Pageant Star Leads Relaunch of Hong Kong Music Program

HONG KONG – A notable elevation in both talent and format marks the return of the popular Hong Kong music series, J Music, with recent pageant winner Victoria Lee taking a prominent hosting role alongside established television personalities including Galileo Tsang and emerging artists like Buzz Poon. Premiering its revamped structure, the program aims to blend chart-topping hits with exclusive collaborations and a spotlight on the next generation of musical talent, cementing its position in the region’s dynamic entertainment landscape.

Victoria Lee, who earned the Miss Friendship and Miss Photogenic titles at the 2025 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, made an impressive debut in the first episode, co-hosting seamlessly with singer-actor Oscar Ngan. Her polished on-screen presence and engaging conversation underscored her readiness for the prime-time slot.

Lee’s comprehensive artistic background, honed since her early teens, provides a strong foundation for her new role. A graduate of the prestigious Cheltenham College in the United Kingdom, where she counts celebrities like Sabrina Ho and Karen Mok among her alma mater predecessors, Lee is a classically trained musician. By age 14, she had achieved her Grade 8 certificate in piano from the ABRSM and Grade 6 in ballet from the RAD. Her musical pursuits continued in the UK, where she mastered the harp and advanced vocal training, accumulating further certifications including ABRSM Grade 8 in Harp, ABRSM Grade 6 in Classical Vocals, and Trinity College London Grade 8 in Modern Music Vocals. Demonstrating a dedication to local culture, she has also studied Cantonese opera under the tutelage of renowned master Evelyn Lau of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, often performing for elderly communities.

The newly configured J Music is significantly expanding its content beyond the traditional weekly Top 20 Chart Countdown. The overhaul introduces three key segments designed to enhance engagement and discovery:

  • One Night Only: This segment features exclusive, one-time musical crossovers, pairing popular artists in fresh collaborations. The debut episode showcased a powerful duet between Phil Lam and power-vocalist Lil’ Ashes in a special self-accompanied rendition of “Be Well.”
  • Voices from the Shows: Dedicated to spotlighting successful alumni from singing competitions like Stars Academy, The Voice, and Midlife, Sing!, connecting past contestants with current audiences. Champion Fong Hei-sip from Stars Academy performed “Listen to Your Own Voice” in the opener.
  • New Voices Landing: A crucial segment focused on introducing emerging artists to viewers.

The inaugural episode also featured multiple high-profile artists, including songwriter Charmaine Fong performing her new track “What Kind of Life Do I Want to Live?” and acclaimed singer-songwriter Chan Kin On discussing his latest album, Sense of Time [Late], focusing on its diverse musical styles, integration of minor keys, and inspiration drawn from “dream melodies.”

In an unprecedented promotional push, the broadcaster launched a month-long, “marathon countdown” on social media beginning on Christmas Day, mobilizing over 40 cross-generational artists to support the program’s return. The impressive roster of supporters includes established names like Hacken Lee, Siu Fay, Eric Chou, Jay Fung, Jason Chan, and Gin Lee, alongside rising stars, highlighting the broad appeal and renewed cultural importance of J Music within the competitive Hong Kong entertainment scene.
