Hong Kong Music Awards Reveal Top 15 Fan Favorites, Pop Group Dominates Nods

The field for the prestigious 2025 Commercial Radio Ultimate Song Chart Awards is narrowing, with the initial round of public voting for the “My Favorite Song” category concluding today, December 10, revealing the top 15 contenders. This highly anticipated music event, celebrating achievements in the local scene, is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2026. Data from the first stage of the “Ultimate My Favorite Song” selection highlighted the continued prominence of the Mandopop boyband MIRROR, whose members secured six individual nominations, in addition to the group itself receiving a nod.

The fiercely competitive initial round, which began on December 8 at noon, saw fans rapidly elevate their preferred tracks. The massive contingent of MIRROR members nominated individually includes Anson Kong (AK) with “Heart Died Hundreds of Times”, Ian Chan’s “The Two Chosen by a Billion Stars”, Edan Lui with “Sterling Silver Bullet”, Keung To’s “On a SunnyDay”, Anson Lo’s “Lemonade”, and Jer Lau’s track “This Succession”. Furthermore, the group’s collective effort, “Handprint”, also made the cut, underscoring their sweeping influence on the current music landscape.

Beyond the dominant boyband, the top 15 features a diverse array of established powerhouses and rising stars. Notable nominations include the collaborative hit by Hins Cheung and Tyson Yoshi, “By My Side”. Rock band Lil’ Ashes earned recognition for “I See the Moon Tonight is Beautiful, How About You?”, while the popular girl group COLLAR secured a spot with “Runaway Girl Group”. New-generation male vocalist MC Cheung Tinfu made the list with “The Liar”, and the multifaceted artist Terence Lam reached the provisional final stage with “April Story”. Female vocalists also showed strength, with Panther Chan’s inspiring track, “The Courage to Ask for Help”, and Hung Kaho’s “Loving You in the Next Life” joining the ranks. Gareth.T (Tom Lauson) rounds out the nominees with “Singing a Love Song with My Back”.

The stringent nature of the voting process meant several established and respected artists did not advance from the first round. Tracks by Jason Chan, Phil Lam, Jeffrey Ngai, Kay Tse, and Gin Lee unfortunately missed the cut for the top 15, indicating the intense level of competition driven by dedicated fan bases.

This initial revelation provides significant insight into the prevailing tastes of Hong Kong music consumers ahead of the January event. The concentration of votes around MIRROR highlights the band’s commercial power and the effectiveness of concerted fan efforts in public balloting processes. As the awards season progresses, subsequent voting rounds will further refine the nominees until the ultimate winner of the “Ultimate My Favorite Song” is announced on New Year’s Day, marking a crucial moment for Mandopop recognition in the region.
