Hong Kong singer Hins Cheung returned to television on Wednesday, appearing as a judge on TVB’s variety special “Fly High with Good Voices.” During the broadcast, he shared updates on his recovery from a recent illness, teased a future Hong Kong concert, and addressed his social media hiatus.
Health and Fitness
Cheung confirmed he developed acute inner ear labyrinthitis during a performance in May but has fully recovered since July, with no lasting effects. He also discussed his fitness routine, noting that despite working out, he remains naturally lean. A recent shirtless photo on social media, he said, was not intended as a deliberate display of his physique.
Concert Plans and Artistic Challenges
Looking ahead, Cheung hinted at a Hong Kong concert sometime next year, though details such as the venue remain undecided. He expressed caution about innovative formats like “recording studio” shows, calling them a formidable test of a singer’s abilities that require an extensive catalog of hits. Reflecting on his discography, Cheung admitted he sometimes considers re-recording older tracks. “If I could, I would re-record ‘Cruel Love,’ as I feel I can perform it better now,” he shared.
In December, Cheung will take on the role of artistic director for a New Year’s Eve show with the Macau Chinese Orchestra. He acknowledged the pressure of added responsibilities and tight preparations but assured the production would be of high quality, comparable to Las Vegas-style concerts.
Friendship and Social Media
Cheung showed support for friend and singer Wong Ying Yuet by purchasing tickets to her stage play “Write About You,” stating he could not miss her show. He also explained his social media hiatus, attributing it to accounting disputes between former and current record companies. He plans to return with a new online series, emphasizing a desire to keep his work and personal life separate.
Looking Ahead
With his health restored and new projects on the horizon, Hins Cheung is poised for a busy period. His return to the public eye and renewed social media presence signal a commitment to connecting with fans while maintaining personal boundaries, reflecting the evolution of a seasoned artist.
