Stephy Tang Returns to Stage with First Album in 14 Years

Hong Kong singer-actress Stephy Tang launched her long-awaited album “Tathātā” with two sold-out concerts on December 15 and 16 at TIDES in Huangpu, celebrating both her musical comeback and her birthday with over a thousand fans. The intimate album launch live shows, which were filled to capacity, marked her first new music release since 2008 and doubled as a celebration of personal and professional milestones.

A Musical Journey Through Time

The concerts were structured into three chapters representing “past,” “present,” and “future,” allowing Tang to guide the audience through her artistic evolution. She performed tracks from the new album alongside classic hits such as “Blue Shoes,” “He Won’t Let Me Cry,” and “Don’t Leave Me Too Far,” prompting full-house sing-alongs as fans waved light sticks in a warm, nostalgic atmosphere.

Tang also included fan-voted sidetracks tailored to each night: “I Am Unwilling” and “Never Forget” for the first show, and “Unexpected Guest” and “Forgotten Princess” for the second. The overwhelming response has led her to consider organizing a dedicated sidetrack concert in the future.

Emotional Highlights and Surprises

One of the most moving moments came during “Little Red Riding Hood,” a song Tang wrote and composed herself for her debut album and had never performed live. On the first night, she broke down in tears just a few lines in, supported by fans who waved their glow sticks in encouragement. The second night she held her composure, but the final song, “Still Here,” proved too much—a montage of fan photos paired with touching lyrics and audience harmonies left her in tears again.

The first concert also coincided with Tang’s birthday. Friends Chen Jian’an and Lester surprised her by dressing as staff members and delivering a birthday cake. Tang joked, “The company sure hires handsome staff—they must have spent a lot,” drawing laughs from the crowd.

Reflections on the Album

Tang described the emotional weight of releasing new music after so many years. “This album launch might sound simple, but it means so much to me. Making a record is not easy—you need good songs and a lot of thought. This album captures so much of my growth and holds many memories. Sharing it with everyone feels as significant as putting on a major concert.”

Speaking about crying during “Little Red Riding Hood,” she explained: “That song was on my first album, and I wrote the lyrics and music for the first time. The words are very encouraging. Singing it now felt like the me from 20 years ago talking to the present me, encouraging me. When I’m really into it and hear the fans singing along, I just can’t hold it back.”

Looking Ahead

The successful album launch has strengthened Tang’s connection with her fanbase and opened the door for more focused performances. With audience demand for sidetracks already high, the shows served as both a celebration and a trial run for future projects. As Tang continues to balance her acting career with music, this return signals a renewed commitment to her artistic voice and the fans who have supported her through decades of work.
