Hong Kong Stars Trade Playful Barbs at Outdoor Game Event, Talk Parenting and Romance

HONG KONG — Local entertainers Jason Chan, Kaki Shum, and Hoi Ning Chan (known as Dee Jie) traded playful insults and laughter at an outdoor game event on Thursday, revealing personal insights into their family lives and a recent brush with romance.

The trio participated in a series of competitive activities, with Shum jokingly claiming he was “ganged up on” by his fellow celebrities. Describing himself as naturally playful, the father of two noted that his priorities have shifted significantly since becoming a husband and parent.

“The worst part is that Jason and Dee Jie conspired to beat me,” Shum said with a laugh. “They claimed they were slow runners, but the moment a win was on the line, they gave it their all.”

Chan, however, dismissed any notion of fierce competitiveness, attributing his performance to natural ability rather than preparation. “I didn’t train specifically for these games,” he said confidently. “I just have good coordination — it’s all about talent.”

Chan’s remarks drew laughter from the group, while Chan herself joked that Shum’s competitive spirit had unlocked her hidden potential.

Parenting Challenges and Joys

The conversation shifted to family life, where Shum, father to sons aged five and one, described the physical demands of raising energetic young boys. “They are very active and love to let loose,” he said. “I have to work hard to earn money and also strengthen my own fitness during my free time to keep up with them in the years ahead.”

Chan, who has two daughters, contrasted his experience, noting that his girls are relatively easier to manage. His wife, Fu Xiao Wei, recently took their eldest daughter Abi on a parent-child travel reality show — a program Chan says he is eager to watch.

“I didn’t want to fall behind, so I took my younger daughter Audrey to Japan during that time,” Chan said. “I hope next time I can travel alone with my eldest daughter.”

The singer observed that seven-year-old Abi is naturally curious and has begun solving problems using her own reasoning, which he finds amusing. However, he admitted that discipline remains a work in progress.

“Sometimes I need to remind her four or five times before she listens,” Chan revealed. “In education, I need to be strict to change her habits and help her understand priorities.”

Addressing Child Safety Concerns

Both fathers expressed distress over recent cases of child abuse in Hong Kong that have drawn public attention. Chan said he feels helpless about the incidents and urged the community to strengthen child protection awareness.

Shum echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the critical role parents play. “Parents absolutely cannot rely entirely on domestic helpers to raise their children,” he said. “Cases where parents abuse their own children are the most heartbreaking — I worry that after being hurt by loved ones, those kids will lose trust in everyone.”

A Romance Cut Short

Chan, the event’s female star, shared a wistful update on her love life, revealing a recent “encounter” that ended before it truly began. “It’s heartbroken,” she said. “I’ll just have to wait for a handsome guy to appear.”

Shum promptly offered his matchmaking services, suggesting his friend Chui Ho Cheong, known as “Fat Chiu.” Chan responded with a smile: “Fat Chiu and I have known each other for years — we’re just friends!”
