Hong Kong entertainer Alvin Ng announced Thursday that he has become a father, revealing that his wife, Leung Cheuk-hing, gave birth to their son nearly a month ahead of schedule. The couple’s baby boy, who weighed more than 5 pounds at birth, arrived well before his expected due date of Nov. 23.
Ng made the announcement while attending an event in the city, sharing an emotional account of the delivery room experience. Despite admitting to a long-standing fear of blood, the singer said he remained by his wife’s side throughout the labor and personally cut the umbilical cord.
“I couldn’t think of anything else in that moment. I was tearing up—it was surreal, a major moment in life,” Ng recalled. “Watching the baby being born, I could see how hard my wife worked during the delivery.”
Baby Julian: A Blend of Both Parents
Ng revealed that the couple has named their son Julian in English, while his Chinese name will be selected by a traditional master. Describing the newborn’s appearance, Ng said the baby is a “combination of both of us,” drawing features from each parent.
The timing of the announcement carries added significance: Friday marks Leung’s birthday, and Ng said he plans to share the first photos of baby Julian on social media to celebrate the occasion.
Unconventional Postpartum Recovery
The new mother has already returned home to begin her confinement period—the traditional Chinese practice of postpartum rest—but Ng said his wife is putting her own spin on the customs.
Leung has been bathing with ginger water, a common practice believed to promote recovery after childbirth. However, Ng noted that his wife has also resumed drinking alcohol, a departure from strict confinement traditions. He emphasized that Leung consulted with medical professionals before making that choice.
A Growing Family Milestone
The announcement marks a joyful milestone for the couple, who have been open about their journey together. Ng’s decision to overcome his aversion to blood underscores the depth of his commitment to being present for the birth—a moment he described as transformative.
The early arrival has brought an unexpected but welcome shift in the family’s plans. With the baby’s due date originally set for late November, the couple now finds themselves adjusting to parenthood ahead of schedule.
Fans can expect to see the first public glimpse of baby Julian on Friday, when Ng follows through on his promise to post photos in honor of his wife’s birthday. The reveal is likely to generate significant interest among the singer’s followers, who have followed the couple’s relationship and pregnancy journey closely.
As the new family settles into their routine, Ng’s heartfelt account of the birth offers a relatable glimpse into the realities of parenthood—from the intensity of the delivery room to the quieter moments of navigating postpartum traditions in a modern way.
