Stephy Tang Reunites with ‘My Dear’ Team for Surreal Taiwan Music Video

Hong Kong singer-actress Stephy Tang has released a boldly imaginative music video for her new single “Already Too Far From Me” (已經離我太遠), filmed in Taiwan with the assistant director and core creative team behind the award-winning film “My Dear.” Tang described the project as a “My Dear reunion,” marking both a nostalgic return and a forward-looking creative leap.

The single pairs Tang with an elite lineup: music by J.Arie, lyrics by iconic writer Wyman Wong, and arrangement and production by Su Daozhe. The collaboration carries particular weight as it is Tang’s first with Wong since their 2001 hit “Don’t Leave Me Too Far,” developing a thematic resonance between the two songs. Tang shared her excitement about the reunion, noting that Wong felt the time was right to commemorate their artistic growth. “I’m really happy to have such a meaningful song that people can truly ponder,” she said.

Tang described the music video as a cinematic experience. “This is my first time filming an MV in Taiwan, and all the sets, lighting, and arrangements are very special,” she explained. “The variety of scenes, male leads, and props created a strong film-like impact that amazed me.”

The video’s narrative is whimsical yet poignant. Tang discovers a magical pink potion that transforms household appliances into a parade of suitors—a massaging charmer, a conversationalist, and a dancing enthusiast—yet none manage to capture her heart. She acknowledged the creative challenge behind the concept. “At first, it was difficult to merge the storyboard with the song,” Tang said. “But after filming, I realized how many thoughtful details break away from typical MV formulas. It’s full of surprises.”

Tang also pushed boundaries with her visual transformation, working closely with stylists to craft a dramatic new look. “I wanted something completely different from my usual image that would shock people,” she said. “This morning, after I finished dressing, even I was stunned. When I went downstairs, the hotel staff’s reaction was the same—it was hilarious.”

The production team brought their expertise from “My Dear,” a 2019 film lauded for its fresh narrative and authentic emotional core. Director Ah Luk and film director Norris Wong infused the video with the same inventive storytelling approach, using magical realism to explore themes of connection and solitude.

For Tang, the song and video mark a deliberate shift toward more experimental work, reinforcing her evolution from pop idol to versatile artist. With a career spanning music and critically acclaimed acting roles, she continues to seek projects that challenge conventions. “Already Too Far From Me” offers fans a layered listening experience, pairing its emotional lyricism and cinematic visuals.

The single and music video are now available across streaming platforms, already generating discussion for their originality. As Tang deepens her collaboration with leading creative figures, she solidifies a reputation for producing content that resonates on multiple levels. Her willingness to embrace risk and redefine her artistry sets a compelling direction for future work.
