HONG KONG — TVB actors gathered Thursday to promote their new drama Dead or Alive (死有對証), trading jabs and striking yoga poses as the cast showcased their flexibility—and sparked a playful war of words over appearances, relationships, and wardrobe choices.
Chen Xiaohua Wows with Split, But Wang Fei Steals Spotlight
At the promotional event, Chen Xiaohua (Hera Chan) impressed onlookers by executing a perfect split, but it was her co-star Wang Fei—dressed in revealing yoga attire—who provided the event’s most talked-about contrast. The two actresses, alongside Ma Guandong and Wei Jiaxiong, gamely participated in the fitness-themed publicity stunt designed to highlight the show’s suspenseful plot.
Chen, who previously encountered an overzealous fan at a promotional appearance, brushed off concerns about her safety, stating she was unshaken by the encounter. “Everyone is reasonable. As long as we communicate clearly, there’s no problem. The most important thing is that everyone is happy,” she said. “When fans come out to see us, we’re thrilled. Their enthusiasm gives me so much energy.”
Chen Reflects on Three-Year Transformation
The actress admitted she initially avoided watching her own performance in the drama, filmed three years ago, but recently caught glimpses while shooting a new series. “I miss who I was three years ago,” Chen said with a nostalgic smile. “I was quite cute back then. Ma Guandong often teases me about being much heavier at the time—and it’s true. There’s a noticeable difference. Now, in terms of appearance, mindset, and age, I’ve grown up and feel more feminine.”
Ma Guandong, laughing at the exchange, shot back: “She’s still pretty silly now, and just as happy.” He also acknowledged his own physical changes over the past three years, admitting he looked puffier with smaller eyes. However, he jokingly dismissed any suggestion of cosmetic work: “I’m not afraid of people accusing me of getting plastic surgery. If I had surgery and still looked like this, that would be a real failure.”
Chen Denies Profanity Allegations, Dodges Romance Questions
Addressing online speculation that her character uses profanity in the show, Chen was quick to clarify: “How could that be? Even I admit it sounds similar, but maybe I was speaking too fast and the tone came out that way. It’s definitely not the word people think it is.”
When questioned about her new co-star Luo Tianyu’s rumored relationship with Chen Yide, Chen played coy: “I don’t know anything!” Asked whether she envied her colleague’s openness about his love life, she hesitated: “No, not at all. I believe in letting relationships happen naturally. Right now, there’s nothing, so I don’t think about it.”
