HONG KONG – Actor Bob Lam, television host Eric Choi, and feng shui master Mak Ling-ling joined “tutor king” Richard Ng on Tuesday for the grand opening of his latest education center in Yuen Long, days after Lam’s 18-year-old daughter secured a spot at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Ng, brother of actress “Sukie” Ng (Wing-mei), has expanded his chain of tutoring centers with a new Yuen Long branch, drawing a crowd of entertainment and business figures. But the spotlight quickly shifted to Lam’s eldest daughter, Faye Lam, whose recent outfit choices sparked online debate.
Daughter’s Future in Musical Theater
Faye Lam has enrolled in a foundation diploma program at the Academy, with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English musical theater. Her father told reporters she aims to perform in productions like The Phantom of the Opera, rather than follow his path in front of the camera.
“She might not want to do the kind of on-screen work I do. She wants to be an English musical theater performer,” Bob Lam said. “So she’s starting with a foundation course and hopes to go on to a degree, focusing on English musical theater.”
When asked about criticism over Faye’s wardrobe, the actor adopted a hands-off approach. “She’s an adult now. I can’t control too much. She should wear what’s appropriate and comfortable for the occasion,” he said, adding that his daughter has a strong mental fortitude and has remained unfazed by online comments. “I will support her fully.”
Mak Ling-ling Ventures into Web Dramas
Mak Ling-ling, a renowned feng shui consultant, revealed she has recently entered the short-form web drama market as a lead actress. She described the shooting schedule as intense, requiring constant oversight, but said she finds the work exhilarating.
“The energy drain is real, but it’s a lot of fun,” Mak said. She noted that multiple brands have already booked seven short dramas for collaboration, prompting her to recruit Lam and the hip-hop duo “Farm” for upcoming projects. As a result, she said she is now selective about her traditional feng shui consultations.
Feng Shui Forecast: Fire, Caution, and a Turn for the Better
Addressing recent natural disasters and sudden tragedies, Mak offered a sobering forecast. She explained that the years Bingwu (2026) and Dingwei (2027) are, in Chinese metaphysics, periods of intense fire energy. Historically, she noted, such cycles are marked by upheaval and change.
“This is a period of Li Fire energy, where the hexagram signifies separation. We see high divorce rates and unexpected deaths,” she said. Mak advised the public to exercise extra caution during the seventh lunar month, particularly regarding road safety and weather changes. “This year, focus on heart and eye health,” she added.
However, she offered a note of optimism. “If we can get through next year, we’ll enter a period of strong metal energy. By then, both Hong Kong and the global situation should gradually improve,” Mak said.
