HONG KONG — Hong Kong actor Tony Hung (洪永城) revealed on Tuesday evening that seeing his wife, model and fitness enthusiast Yanny Leung (梁諾妍), maintain her flawless physique drives him to shed pounds — a struggle he likened to a lifelong war against stubborn fat.
Speaking at a public event, Hung candidly described his daily motivation. “Every day I see my wife working hard to keep her perfect figure, and I feel ashamed,” he said. “But stubborn fat is like a wartime best friend — it never leaves you. So I have to keep getting fit. It’s a lifelong career, just like for women.”
The actor, who married Leung in 2021, recently booked a squash court so their young daughter could run around and “discharge her energy.” Hung laughed as he recounted that their child has inherited Leung’s passion for running. “I was exhausted, but it was totally worth it,” he added.
Hung also addressed recent speculation surrounding close friend and actress Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), who sparked pregnancy rumors due to a slightly bloated stomach. “I already told her she needs to exercise more, but she said she doesn’t need to — she claims AI can handle it,” Hung quipped. “Sometimes I ask her to do a few push-ups and she can’t even do that. She should work out and also visit a beauty salon to shape up — that would be perfect.”
On a separate note, Hung dismissed reports that he had tried — and failed — to set up actress Samantha Ko (高海寧) on a blind date. “It’s not that she rejected anyone,” he clarified. “She’s simply too busy with work. There needs to be mutual compatibility and shared interests before anything can develop. But the two haven’t even met yet.”
Hung acknowledged he needs to review his list of potential matches. “Her standards aren’t high, but chemistry and first impressions are crucial,” he said. “I’ll keep looking for suitable candidates and hope I can help her.”
The actor’s remarks come as part of a broader conversation about body image and fitness in Hong Kong’s entertainment industry, where public figures often face intense scrutiny over their appearances. Nutritionists note that visceral fat, which accumulates around internal organs, is particularly resistant to diet and exercise — a point Hung’s “wartime friend” analogy echoes.
For those seeking to combat stubborn fat, experts recommend a combination of consistent strength training, high-intensity interval workouts, and a balanced diet rich in protein and fiber. Spot reduction, they caution, is a myth; overall body fat percentage must drop before targeted areas slim down.
Hung’s comments also highlight the role of social support in fitness journeys. Studies show that having an active partner can significantly boost one’s own exercise adherence and results.
As for his matchmaking efforts, Hung said he remains optimistic. “These things take time. I’ll keep trying,” he added.
