TV Drama Duo Teases Romance, Fuels Speculation at Festive Event

Hong Kong television personalities Kelly Ng Pui-ling and Andy Chan Chun-ting ignited fresh speculation about their rumored relationship on Tuesday as they promoted their situation comedy, Lo and Behold, Charmaine, displaying distinct chemistry and engaging in playful banter during a public appearance. The duo, often linked romantically in gossip columns, shared celebratory plans for the upcoming winter holiday and hinted at further professional collaboration, culminating in an unexpected public declaration of affection from Chan.

The event, focused on the festive season, saw the actors arriving together, frequently linking arms, and indulging the press with lighthearted responses regarding their personal lives. Chen, who has been nominated for the Most Improved Male Artiste award at this year’s TVB Anniversary Gala, revealed his Winter Solstice schedule, which involves an initial taping session with his on-screen family, followed by a family dinner.

Public Confession Stuns Co-Star

When questioned about inviting Ng to partake in his holiday celebrations, Chan noted his co-star would likely travel to Guangzhou to be with her family. He swiftly followed up by making a spontaneous arrangement for Ng to celebrate his birthday upon her return to Hong Kong.

The most publicized moment came when Chan recounted an encounter while filming recently in Guangzhou. He described children approaching him with photos of Ng, expressing their admiration. He admitted to blurting out: “I feel the same way,” a clear reference to his affection for her. The sudden, public admission visibly surprised Ng, who responded playfully, “My mind went blank for a sudden moment.”

Chan, dodging further questions about the seriousness of his comment and playfully asking for a lawyer before speaking, laughed off inquiries about whether he was planning to propose marriage. Ng, confirming she had never been confessed to publicly before, acknowledged that many children often express fondness for Chan. This prompted a jokingly theatrical complaint from Chan: “But you didn’t say ‘I feel the same way too!'”

A Year of ‘Flying Leaps’ and Future Pairings

The entertainment focus quickly shifted to Chan’s nomination for the prestigious award. Ng confirmed she was mobilizing her family to vote for him. When asked about potential celebratory plans if he wins, Chan joked that he would demand Ng wear a bikini alongside him, quipping that one outfit would be “for viewing” and the other “for scaring,” a playful dig at his own physique.

Chan expressed immense satisfaction with his professional year, calling it “super-successful” after achieving a trifecta of work across singing, film, and television. This included releasing music, starring in Lo and Behold and My Gilded Age, and participating in the film adaptation of A Step into the Past (also known as The Legend of the Ancient Hero). He described the period as a year of continuous “flying leaps.”

Looking ahead, both actors confirmed their strong desire to capitalize on their popularity as a rumored on-screen and off-screen pairing. Chan suggested they continue seeking work as a professional “couple unit,” noting that he and co-star Jess Shum (Yip Sin-man) had often been cast together and were ready for a break. Ng agreed, emphasizing the rarity of finding a compatible working partner and hoping for many more joint projects in the future, securing their position as a highly sought-after dramatic duo in Hong Kong media.
