Hong Kong’s popular variety show, ViuTV’s Dice World (骰界), delivered a dose of unexpected comedy and self-deprecating humour in its latest episode, broadcast on Tuesday, October 11th. The program, which features a rotating cast of celebrities tackling complex challenges, saw its “Dicers”—including Jeremy Lee, Dennis Kwok (known as 193), Ivy So, Jason Loi, Sze Chai Law (Ice), and Neo Yau—engage in the second round of strenuous “Appreciation Dice Missions.”
The competitive segment, dubbed “Confidential Clues,” required teams to designate one member to provide a single cryptic hint. The remaining teammates then sifted through a pool of 25 words to correctly identify their assigned keywords. This week’s interactions highlighted a playful dynamic involving rookie member Jason Loi, sparking immediate viewer engagement.
Rookie Member Jason Becomes Clue for “Stupidity”
In one memorable pairing, the team consisting of Jeremy, 193, Neo Yau, and guests Kim Tso and Nicole Choi (Tung Tung), demonstrated uncanny comedic synchronicity. When Neo Yau provided the clue “Jason,” both Jeremy and 193 instantly raised their hands, unanimously shouting the Cantonese word for “stupid.” The guess, surprisingly, was correct.
Following the successful deduction, Jason Loi openly addressed the running gag. “They constantly tease me on the show, wondering, ‘Is Jason really going to be able to play this, being so foolish?'” Loi admitted. “I confess, there are games where I truly fail to grasp the rules and only manage to fumble through.”
The exchange underscores the show’s lighthearted yet competitive atmosphere, often leveraging the personal dynamics and perceived competence levels of its hosts for humour.
Inexperience and Identity Confusion Fuel Onscreen Jokes
Later in the segment, team member Jeremy offered a more benign, career-focused interpretation of the “Jason” clue, theorising the keyword might relate to “newcomer” or “rookie” given Loi’s relatively short tenure in the entertainment industry compared to his co-hosts. Loi is a member of the boy band ROVER and is the most junior Dicer.
However, 193 pivoted back to humour, suggesting that Neo Yau’s clue might have stemmed from a fundamental lack of familiarity with his co-stars. “I suspect Neo Yau doesn’t even realise Jason is a newcomer,” 193 joked. “He doesn’t know the ROVER members. He actually asked me today, pointing at Kim [Tso], ‘Who is that?'”
This off-the-cuff remark led to the innocent guest Kim Tso becoming the unintended target of the Dicer’s identity joke, further cementing the show’s reputation for unscripted, fast-paced comedic ribbing.
Dice World continues to captivate audiences by blending challenging “dicer” games with relatable celebrity interactions, ensuring that even when participants struggle with the rules, the resulting on-screen chemistry provides substantial entertainment. The quick banter and self-aware humour among the talented cast remain key drivers of the show’s success in the competitive Hong Kong variety landscape.
