Veteran Star Invests Millions in New Mainland Live-Streaming Venture

Foshan, China – Esteemed Hong Kong actress and comedian Yuen King-Tan (also known as “Yuen Jai”) officially inaugurated her new multi-million dollar live-streaming firm in Foshan, Guangdong Province, signaling a significant investment into China’s burgeoning virtual economy as 2026 approaches. The company, named “Starry Starburst” (星耀星柏), held its grand opening ceremony recently, drawing a crowd of celebrity friends and industry veterans.

The high-profile launch included the announcement that Yuen has successfully secured a major partnership with leading television actor Joel Chan (陳山聰), making him the company’s first contracted talent. Chan, a recent TV King title winner, expressed immense trust in the collaboration, noting his lengthy history with Yuen.

“The most critical elements are mutual trust and sincerity,” Chan stated at the event. “We both feel there is substantial room for collaboration and alignment.” Chan, who admitted his mainland market experience pales in comparison to Yuen’s, humorously referred to her as his “blind man’s walking stick,” a nod to her early guidance when he started his career decades ago. “Even during our TVB days, she was instrumental in showing me how to act. Now, we’ve come full circle to collaborate again.”

Yuen revealed that the total investment in the venture exceeds 10 million RMB (approximately 1.4 million USD). She emphasized her absolute confidence in Chan’s broad appeal, citing his versatility across beauty, fashion, fitness, and lifestyle segments as ideal prerequisites for successful live commerce.

“He is essentially my first contracted artist,” Yuen confirmed. “Joel is genuinely convincing in every aspect, making him perfect for live streaming. Crucially, he knows I am transparent and straightforward—he won’t be set up for failure working with me. Our goal is simple: to execute this venture successfully.”

The launch event was also attended by a host of prominent figures, including Natalis Chan (陳百祥), Benny Chan (陳浩民), Wong Yat-San (黃一山), and Lam Tze-Chung (林子聰).

During his remarks, longtime industry figure Natalis Chan, known for his candid commentary, briefly mused on his influence in the careers of other stars. He recounted an anecdote concerning the current TV Queen, Charmaine Sheh, recalling how he purportedly helped mentor her during her 1997 Miss Hong Kong Pageant run.

Chan also offered well-wishes to TVB General Manager Eric Tsang, who recently announced his departure from the post, characterizing the move as a successful retreat after completing a challenging mission.

“I am happy for him; he has retired on a high note after achieving success,” Natalis Chan commented. He acknowledged the difficult task Tsang faced in trying to revitalize a deeply struggling industry. “It’s a demanding job, and I believe he performed exceptionally well. Now, he gets to do what makes him happy. One should always prioritize one’s own happiness, regardless of external opinions,” he concluded.

The launch of Starry Starburst underscores a growing trend where established Hong Kong and Taiwanese entertainment veterans are repositioning themselves in the mainland Chinese market, leveraging digital platforms like live streaming to monetize their substantial following and cultural influence. This strategic cross-regional investment signifies the continued merger of traditional celebrity power with the explosive growth of e-commerce in Greater China.
