Famed Hong Kong actor Bosco Wong, nominated for the prestigious TV King title at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2025 for his role in News Queen 2, took to the busy streets of Mong Kok last night (December 24) in a highly visible campaign rally to solicit votes. While the impromptu event drew immediate throngs of onlookers and fervent shouts of “TV King” from supporters, Wong admitted to feeling a touch of awkwardness despite his cheerful demeanor. The high-profile campaign push, organized just weeks before the ceremony, underscores the mounting anticipation surrounding one of Hong Kong television’s biggest nights.
The star’s latest nomination comes for his portrayal of “Kingston” in the critically acclaimed sequel News Queen 2. The series concluded its run approximately two weeks before the start of the awards season, maintaining high public discussion and momentum. During the street event, which saw the unexpected, albeit playful, appearance of fellow artist Joey Thye brandishing her own promotional sign, Wong confirmed his enthusiastic participation in the company-arranged promotional effort.
A Long-Awaited Breakthrough
In an interview, Wong candidly discussed his long history with the top acting category, having been nominated more than ten times previously. He recalled believing he had a strong chance to win several years ago for his role as “Lame Co” in Flying Tiger 2, only to ultimately lose.
Reflecting on his current prospects for achieving a breakthrough, Wong maintained a balanced perspective. “Yes, if I win, of course, I will be delighted,” he stated. “But if I don’t, I know I have given my best effort, and I am grateful to the producer for involving me in such a high-quality production.”
Wong publicly expressed skepticism regarding his own chances, instead tipping Bowie Lam from Forensic Heroes 12 as the likely winner. When asked about his personal ballot, he confirmed he voted for Lam, Himself, and Vincent Luo. He also promised a grand celebratory gesture—distributing milk beverages to supporters—should he ultimately triumph.
Industry Support and Increasing Pressure
The intense buildup has been amplified by public endorsements from industry heavyweights, including Liza Wang (Ah Jie), Michael Miu (Third Brother), Bobby Au-Yeung, and Linda Chung, who have released supportive video messages.
Wong acknowledged that while deeply moved by the support, he is also feeling the pressure. He recounted a memorable exchange with Michael Miu, who reportedly joked that Wong’s “wicked mouth” in the series made him a strong contender. He also shared a recent encounter with veteran actress Liza Wang during an outdoor shoot in Central. “Ah Jie asked me, ‘Haven’t you won TV King yet? You must win this year!’ It felt like being scolded by a parent,” Wong recalled, emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with the voters.
He refrained from directly lobbying close friends like Raymond Lam and Ron Ng, noting their demanding schedules. Lam is currently immersed in concert preparations, while Ng is busy filming. Wong did, however, express excitement for Lam’s upcoming film A Step into the Past, hailing it as a cherished collective memory destined for box office success.
Looking back, Wong referenced his win for “Most Popular TVB Male Artiste in the Greater Bay Area” two years ago, where he publicly forgot to thank executive Virginia Lok (Le Yi Ling) on stage. “That was a capital offense. I was so scared I immediately felt a chill down my spine and got a cold when I got home,” he confessed. “If I win this year, the first person I thank will definitely be her.”
Festive Filming and Future Projects
While campaigning aggressively in the final pre-award days, Wong confirmed he has maintained his filming commitments for the upcoming drama Behind the Scenery. The series is scheduled to wrap production on New Year’s Eve, allowing him to squeeze in festive promotional duties, including scheduled Christmas interviews.
The cast of Behind the Scenery recently organized a Christmas gift exchange. Wong revealed he received coffee and a mug set from Curtis Tsui, while his own premium beauty gift was snagged by Irene Wan.
Wong also related a humorous incident where Ms. Lok distributed triple-tote lottery tickets to the crew. “I watched the race on TV for the first time, but unfortunately, my ticket was immediately invalidated in the first leg,” he joked. “It seems I will have to rely on hard work for my earnings.”
