TVB’s Jinny Ng Wins Comedy Award, Prioritizes Hong Kong Tragedies

HONG KONG – Celebrated actress and singer Jinny Ng (吳若希) secured the prestigious award for Best Comedy Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Regional Winner) at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) in Singapore, recognizing her work in the TVB series The Bold and the Beautiful. However, in a poignant display of solidarity, Ng chose to forgo the November 26th ceremony, instead remaining in Hong Kong following a devastating Category 5 fire that occurred earlier that week in Tai Po’s Wang Fuk Court.

The decision underscores a commitment to civic duty and community support, overriding personal career milestones. Upon receiving notification of her win, Ng shared her sentiments on social media, emphasizing the weight of the achievement and the importance of addressing local tragedies.

“This award, the Best Comedy Performance by an Actress, my first acting recognition from the Asian Academy Creative Awards, holds immense significance for me,” Ng wrote. “While I deeply wished to travel to Singapore to express my gratitude in person, considering the recent grave incidents unfolding in Hong Kong, I felt it was essential to stay here and stand together with the people of Hong Kong.”

Sharing the Acclaim for The Bold and the Beautiful

Ng’s victory specifically recognized her portrayal of the character “Lam Choi-lam” in the widely viewed TVB drama, The Bold and the Beautiful. Often lauded for her versatile acting, this regional accolade highlights her successful transition into comedic roles.

The actress dedicated her recognition to the collaborative force behind the production, noting that the applause belongs to every member involved. She specifically extended her thanks to TVB for its continuous support and cultivation of her talent.

“I want to share this applause with everyone involved: my company, TVB, for their unwavering encouragement and training,” Ng stated. “To the entire team of The Bold and the Beautiful—the crew, producers, writers, and cast—those who gave life to this story, and all the viewers and fans who supported the series.”

Ng also offered special acknowledgment to her co-stars, including Edwin Siu, Joel Chan, and Toby Chan. She credited their teamwork and support for elevating her performance, making the character of Lam Choi-lam more authentic and multifaceted.

Artist Solidarity During Crisis

Ng’s decision highlights a growing trend among public figures to prioritize social responsibility during times of localized crisis. By choosing to remain in Hong Kong, she utilized her platform to draw attention to the substantial challenges faced by the community, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating fire that impacted numerous families.

Her final remarks focused on collective hope: “Thank you again for all the love. Let us continue to pray for Hong Kong.”

The Asian Academy Creative Awards recognizes excellence in content creation and performance across 16 regional territories. Ng’s win not only affirms her status as a leading talent in Asian television but also demonstrates the powerful role artists can play in bridging cultural success with local social accountability. Her actions serve as a meaningful example of how influence can be leveraged to console and unify a community navigating difficult circumstances.
