Seven leading candidates for the highly anticipated TVB Anniversary Awards 2025 held a joint media meeting on Monday, offering insights into their chances and goals ahead of the prestigious ceremony. Nominees for the coveted Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories—including seasoned veterans Angie Chiu and Tsui Wing, along with rising stars Joey Leong, Kwong-Chiu Ho, and Karl Ting—gathered to discuss their work, campaigning efforts, and the industry’s dynamics, including recent rumors of a “no-dating” policy.
Seasoned Actors Eye Recognition
The competition for the supporting roles is particularly fierce this year, with several nominees seen as frontrunners. Among them is Tseung Chi-Kin, widely known as “Fei Sir,” who has previously secured a Best Supporting Actor title. Tseung admitted he remains hopeful for a win, viewing the award as validation for the entire production team.
“If you enter the race, you aim to win,” Tseung stated. “Last season, I made it to the top five for ‘The Queen of News‘ but didn’t clinch the award. I’m hoping this time will be different, as winning is a major affirmation of the efforts of everyone involved in the show.”
Another long-serving nominee, Tsui Wing, who is nearing his 30th anniversary with the broadcaster, expressed a personal ambition to secure a trophy to accompany his upcoming long-service gold medal.
“All the nominees who made the shortlist are my rivals, but every single one of them is deserving of the award,” Tsui reflected. “If I don’t win this time, I’ll certainly come back and try again next year.”
Newer Talent Focuses on Contribution
While veterans seek long-awaited accolades, younger nominees expressed a more participatory mindset, recognizing the strength of the field.
Kwong-Chiu Ho acknowledged the stiff competition, emphasizing his joy in simply being nominated. His focus remains on the success of the series he featured in, irrespective of individual wins. “I will be happy as long as any cast member from dramas like ‘The Queen of News 2‘ or ‘The Golden Forest‘ takes home an award,” Ho said, adding that he planned to be a steadfast supporter for his colleagues on award night.
Meanwhile, Karl Ting, nominated for his villainous turn in ‘The Hero Doctor‘, showed confidence tempered by respect for his peers. He noted that merely being interviewed alongside three established veterans like Tsui, Tseung, and Ching was already a significant achievement.
Ting plans an unconventional campaign strategy to boost his visibility, promising to share new physique-flaunting photos online next week. “Having the audience remember the villain I played is already a huge success,” he commented. “An award would be the icing on the cake, but my main hope is that this performance leads to more opportunities to play compelling villains next year.”
Addressing Industry Gossip: The ‘No-Dating’ Rumor
During the interview, the topic shifted to an unconfirmed rumor alleging that TVB had implemented a “love ban,” discouraging actively promoted young actors (known as siu sangs and fadans) from engaging in high-profile relationships.
Ting dismissed the rumor, saying he had not directly heard of such a rule. However, he confirmed that his management team had previously inquired about his dating history and advised caution in handling personal affairs.
“If that were an official approach, wouldn’t it be a step backward?” Ting questioned, suggesting the underlying motivation might be to encourage artists to focus solely on their careers. He quickly pointed out that when his colleague Ho announced his marriage, the overall public response was extremely positive, indicating a generally open-minded audience.
As the countdown to the TVB Anniversary Awards intensifies, the promotional efforts underscore the prestige and emotional investment associated with winning industry recognition, highlighting both personal ambitions and collective team success within Hong Kong’s vibrant television scene.
