Hong Kong Star Lands Iconic Girl Group Members for Album Finale

HONG KONG—Acclaimed Cantopop artist Annz Chan (陳健安), formerly of the band C AllStar, successfully concluded his ambitious annual music project this week with the release of his fourth single, “A Song in Eden” (伊甸有歌). Promoting the track during an interview on Metro Radio’s The Storyteller with host Winton, Chan detailed how the accompanying music video (MV) serves as a monumental tribute to Hong Kong’s female ensemble history, uniting four members from iconic girl groups spanning multiple eras.

The new single and MV, a culmination of Chan’s year-long exploration of thematic musical narratives, achieved a significant feat by securing former Cookies member Miki Yeung (楊愛瑾) as the lead actress. The video also features a meticulously planned cameo segment bringing together key figures from four different generations of popular Hong Kong female acts, effectively connecting the decades-long thread of the local music scene.

Chan revealed that the concept was a collaborative effort with director Oscar. The MV’s final sequence, a special “Easter egg” for fans, unites Yeung with the lead actresses from Chan’s three previous singles. This inter-generational roster includes Yanny Chan (陳穎欣) from Super Girls, who starred in “Not Too Late, Not Too Early” (不遲不早); Ah Dan (黃詠霖) of Lolly Talk, featured in “Words on the Forehead” (額頭有字); and Regen Cheung (張惠雅) from HotCha, the star of “No Time” (沒有時間).

This unprecedented arrangement aimed to juxtapose the personal journeys and current phases of life for these influential artists. They represent the evolving cultural and sonic footprints of Cantopop girl groups, from the early 2000s boom with Cookies to the contemporary success of Lolly Talk.

Chan expressed profound gratitude for the collaboration, emphasizing the historical significance of the moment. “To have these four personalities come together for one music project means a lot,” Chan stated emotionally. “Watching them film together was truly a precious and rare moment.”

The artist views the collective appearance of these members as a powerful symbolic gesture, representing different epochs witnessing the transformation of the music industry. Chan urged fans and viewers to engage closely with the “A Song in Eden” MV, noting that the sequence is rich with subtle narrative connections and hidden plot details waiting to be uncovered.

The successful execution of this project underscores Chan’s standing as an artist committed to both musical innovation and the preservation of Hong Kong’s pop heritage. By linking four distinct phases of the local music scene through these prominent figures, the final installment of his annual album project not only promotes new music but also creates a significant cultural artifact for Cantopop enthusiasts.
