Hong Kong Music Stars Host Concert for Fire Victims, Families

Hong Kong band RubberBand and organizer Culture Yiu Wing will host a charity concert on December 14 at the West Kowloon Cultural District’s AXA x WONDERLAND to raise critical funds for victims and families affected by the devastating Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire, which tragically claimed 151 lives. Scheduled amidst widespread grief over the disaster, the event aims to harness the power of music to provide tangible support and solace, particularly as over 30 individuals remain unaccounted for.

The event, titled “RubberBand x Culture Yiu Wing Together Concert,” will be held at the AXA x WONDERLAND and feature 6,000 seats. Tickets are uniformly priced at HK$388 and go on sale on December 4 at noon via the Klook platform, with no handling fees applied. Recognizing the urgent need for aid, the organizers have also established optional donation tiers of HK$100, HK$300, and HK$500.

Ensuring Full Transparency in Fundraising Efforts

A cornerstone of the fundraising initiative is an absolute commitment to transparency. Organizers have confirmed that 100% of the ticket revenue will be donated, with absolutely no deduction for any costs or expenses. All operational expenditures, including venue rental, production, personnel, promotion, and administration, will be fully absorbed by the hosts and supporting entities.

To maintain stringent financial accountability, an independent accounting firm has been commissioned to conduct a dedicated audit and produce a comprehensive report. Furthermore, a summary of all income and expenses, along with relevant documentation, will be publicly disclosed on official channels within seven days of the event’s conclusion. Funds will be directly disbursed to the designated beneficiaries, ensuring the full amount reaches those in need.

Beneficiaries Include Fire Victims and Frontline Support

The proceeds will be distributed among five key organizations and groups dedicated to recovery and support:

  • Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Relief Fund
  • Tung Wah Group of Hospitals’ Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Incident Love Donation
  • Families of deceased firefighters
  • Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge Limited
  • House of Jay and Mercy (Ah Kun House)

A representative from Culture Yiu Wing underscored the commitment to public trust. “We guarantee that every dollar from ticket sales will be directly donated, verified by independent accountants,” the representative stated. “Our method of disbursement is transparent, direct, and efficient, providing timely assistance to the victims’ families and our frontline partners.”

Music as a Force for Healing and Solidarity

The organizing artist, RubberBand, expressed their deep emotional connection to the tragedy. “Like everyone else, the immense loss inflicted by this fire has left us heartbroken,” the band shared in a public statement. “While witnessing the community mobilize with material and emotional support, we asked ourselves: What more can we do? Although time is short, we partnered with Culture Yiu Wing to arrange this concert.”

The band emphasized their desire to use their music to accompany the community through this difficult period. They hope to transform each ticket purchase into a tangible act of care and support. “We stand alongside every affected family with our voices, ensuring love and remembrance endure,” they added.

Generous corporate support for the concert comes from entities including R Flat, AXA, Hing Ming Asia Engineering Limited, Klook, and 7LIFESTYLE LIMITED. This collective action highlights a powerful cross-sector response, utilizing cultural events to drive critical humanitarian aid and underline the community’s resilience in the face of profound adversity.
