Daniel Deng Honored with CASH Music Achievement Award at 2026 Gala

Daniel Deng, the acclaimed lyricist behind timeless Chinese classics like “Boundless Love for Mountains and Rivers” and “Dream of the Capital,” received the CASH Music Achievement Award at the 2026 CASH Annual Dinner and 24th Golden Sail Music Awards on February 4. The award was presented by legendary actor Michael Hui, with singer-actress Wang Mingquan, who popularized many of Deng’s compositions, attending to celebrate the milestone.

Deng’s career spans decades of shaping Hong Kong’s musical landscape through evocative lyrics that defined an era. The award from Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong recognized his enduring influence, with Hui lauding his contributions to Cantopop and Mandarin ballads. Wang, visibly moved, recalled first working with Deng on hits that became cultural touchstones.

Wang Mingquan Reflects on Collaborations and Performances

Reflecting on her own journey, Wang expressed gratitude for partnering with top-tier lyricists including Zheng Guojiang and the late Huang Zhan. She noted that these collaborations enriched her artistry. More recently, she has performed intimate shows in mainland China, reconnecting with longtime fans. Wang described those gatherings as meaningful exchanges with kindred spirits.

She also touched on her guest appearance at Louis Koo’s concert, where she revived the energetic dance number “Hot Coffee.” With a laugh, she remarked that Koo is deeply committed to his singing ambitions, adding that she had never seen him perform such an upbeat routine before. The experience, she said, was thoroughly enjoyable.

Safety Concerns Amid Performance Risks

Wang, who is set to host TVB’s upcoming anniversary show, expressed concern for actor Zhu Minhan, who fell from about two meters during rehearsals for a high-difficulty stunt. She called for performers to stay vigilant, noting that such risks remind her of past colleagues like Damien Lau and Liu Kai-chi, who often pushed physical limits during their acts. “They were incredibly dedicated, but safety must come first,” she emphasized.

Family Update and Career Balance

When asked about her husband, veteran actor Michael Luo, Wang shared that he is currently filming in Chaozhou. She noted that he thrives on a busy schedule, often sleeping better when immersed in work, and called his resilience a blessing. Her update offered a glimpse into how both manage demanding careers while supporting each other.

The evening highlighted not only Deng’s legacy but also the interconnected history of Hong Kong’s entertainment industry. As Wang continues to perform and host, her reflections served as a reminder of the passion and risks that define show business. The CASH award cemented Deng’s place among music greats, with peers and protégés alike acknowledging his lasting imprint on the region’s cultural fabric.
