The 63rd Taiwan Golden Horse Awards have cast a spotlight on the film “Shan Nan Xin Nu,” which earned nine nominations including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Narrative Feature. During the charity premiere in Taipei on Tuesday, stars Zhong Xueying and Yang Weilun expressed hope that the acclaim will translate into strong audience turnout and box office success.
Zhong, a previous Golden Horse Best Actress winner, downplayed expectations for repeating her win. “I’m truly delighted to attend the ceremony with the cast and crew,” she said. “I hope these nine nominations generate buzz and bring more viewers to theaters.” She noted that being part of the team’s journey is rewarding regardless of the final outcome.
Yang praised Zhong’s fearless commitment to her craft, particularly during action sequences. “She’s an incredibly dedicated actor who gives her full energy to every scene,” he recalled. “I often joked to myself that I was more nervous than her during stunts involving sharp props, worried I might accidentally hurt her despite her confidence.”
Zhong’s other film, “My Dad Wants to Travel,” is also in theaters during the same period. Instead of viewing the overlap as competition, she described it as a complementary opportunity. “I hope audiences support both works,” she said. Yang agreed, noting that multiple quality releases from the same actor can help cultivate a stronger moviegoing culture.
In a lighthearted moment, the duo promised to bring out co-star Lu Zhenye for exclusive audience perks if “Shan Nan Xin Nu” performs well at the box office. Yang mentioned that several of Lu’s scenes were cut due to time constraints, adding, “We’re looking for the right moment to release those top-secret clips.”
Actor Zhu Bokang playfully challenged Yang to treat the group to dinner for six months if he wins Best Actor. Yang responded warmly: “Win or not, I’ll still host a meal because brotherhood is lasting—having fun together over food is what truly matters.”
On preparations for the awards gala, Yang joked about struggling to find a well-fitting suit, while Zhong noted that her team has handled her ceremony wardrobe.
The nine nominations underscore the film’s creative depth and the chemistry between its leads. For Zhong and Yang, this awards season serves both as a career milestone and an opportunity to strengthen audience connections, potentially boosting interest in local cinema.
