TVB’s music program “J Music” aired an episode on March 3 featuring an unexpected collaboration among three of its leading actors. Mak Kwok Ming, Siu Cheng Nan, and Cho Wing Lim came together for the “One Night Limited” segment, performing classic hits and revealing the serendipitous story behind their temporary group.
Group Formation and Performance
The trio performed the iconic songs “Seventeen” and “Stupid Kid,” showcasing their vocal individuality. Siu Cheng Nan delivered a deep, steady baritone; Cho Wing Lim offered a bright, penetrating tenor; and Mak Kwok Ming provided a gentle, warm quality. Despite their distinct styles, they blended seamlessly, achieving rare harmony and emotional impact.
Cho Wing Lim explained the group’s origins. He and Siu Cheng Nan had previously staged six concerts together. Two years ago, while dining with organizers for their debut concert in mainland China, they were considering guest performers. With only Mak Kwok Ming at the table, they extended a casual invitation. He immediately agreed, and the coinciding Year of the Horse further inspired the formation of this limited-edition group.
Meaning Behind the Music
The actors also performed their concert theme song “Three Lives of Luck.” Mak Kwok Ming noted that the lyrics highlight gratitude for the caring people one encounters in life. Siu Cheng Nan added that “Three Lives” symbolizes the three “sheng” (leading men) and their shared joy in the collaboration.
In a lighter segment, the group played a game identifying songs from pictures. Cho Wing Lim humorously failed to recognize his own track, laughing at the difficulty of the challenge.
Seoul Adventures
Another highlight was the “Honey Punch Fei Seoul” segment, featuring the girl group Honey Punch and actress Ke Yu Fei (Ophelia). They visited a large clothing store, where Ke Yu Fei joked about women’s enthusiasm for shopping. After changing into new outfits, they posed at scenic spots and performed Honey Punch’s new song “Sugar-Free Punch” on Seoul streets, drawing a crowd. The group shared that their training in Korea improved their teamwork and dance execution, building anticipation for their upcoming activities.
Implications
This collaboration on “J Music” reflects TVB’s strategy of blending veteran talent with fresh acts to create engaging content. The positive reception suggests such temporary groups may become a recurring feature, offering viewers authentic entertainment and reinforcing the network’s appeal in a competitive landscape.
