SEOUL – Five years after captivating audiences with a peak viewership rating of 23.3 percent, the cast of the hit historical drama “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds” is reuniting for a special two-day getaway. The new variety program, titled “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds Again,” premieres September 16 and will be available to Hong Kong viewers via Viu.
Actors Park Bo-gum, Kim Yoo-jung, Jin Young, Chae Soo-bin, and Kwak Dong-yeon are set to travel to Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province for the reunion, which commemorates the drama’s 10th anniversary. Rather than a typical interview-style retrospective, the show is structured as a reality travel program, weaving in nostalgic moments by revisiting the costumes and iconic scenes from the original series.
The project originated from a personal suggestion by Park Bo-gum, according to Korean media reports. The actor, who played Crown Prince Lee Yeong in the drama, took to social media to express his sentiments, writing, “May we all shine brightly forever like the moonlight.”
In promotional posters, the five actors are seen wearing their original costumes from the 2016 drama. Kim Yoo-jung remarked that putting the costume back on felt “really strange,” while Kwak Dong-yeon compared the sensation to “wearing a school uniform after graduation.”
The program promises to highlight the genuine friendships formed during filming. Park Bo-gum recalled in a preview, “When we get together, it’s like being back in the classroom.” Jin Young noted that the group has maintained contact over the past decade, sharing updates and supporting one another. Kwak Dong-yeon humorously questioned, “Why do the five of us become so childish when we’re together?”
One particularly moving moment in the trailer shows Kim Yoo-jung tearing up, with Park Bo-gum silently holding her hand. The wordless gesture has resonated with fans online, with some commenting that the scene evokes the protective dynamic between their characters.
The special also reveals the cast members’ off-screen personalities. Jin Young is portrayed as a timid older brother figure who fears ghosts, while Chae Soo-bin surprises viewers with an unexpectedly spirited yell, earning her the description of a “temperamental herbivore.” Kwak Dong-yeon and Kim Yoo-jung engage in playful sibling-like banter, while Park Bo-gum serves as the group’s steady anchor.
Since the drama aired, all five actors have achieved significant career milestones. Park Bo-gum has become a leading Hallyu star, and Kim Yoo-jung has transitioned successfully into romantic comedy roles. Jin Young starred in the Korean adaptation of “You Are the Apple of My Eye,” which screened in 36 countries. Chae Soo-bin’s drama “When the Phone Rings” reached number one in 33 countries, and she was voted “Most Beautiful Korean Actress of 2024” in an overseas poll. Kwak Dong-yeon recently showcased his range in the fantasy series “The Strange Palace.”
