HONG KONG – The second season of the hit wireless dating reality show “Goddess Matchmaking Plan 2” launches Tuesday night (Feb. 6), promising a revamped format, heightened production values, and a notably more diverse pool of male contestants. After extensive auditions, show hosts Bob Lam and May Ko have praised the elevated caliber of this season’s “love warriors,” while cast member Maggie Leung highlighted qualities like sincerity, charm, and reliability among the hopefuls.
The premiere episode introduces 18 male contestants, each representing a distinct category: appearance, physique, talent, or financial status – with a few “wild cards” thrown in. Producers have previewed four standout participants from the initial casting sessions.
First up is street fitness coach Lin Zilang, whose intense roadside workout routine left panelist Kaman Kwan momentarily speechless. Lam, known for his comedic timing, jokingly challenged Lin – who claims to resemble action star Jackie Chan – to a sparring match. Dubbing himself “Hung Kam Bob” (a playful nod to Chan’s frequent co-star Sammo Hung), Lam quickly recoiled after Lin’s first punch, clutching his groin and calling for a timeout.
Next is Oscar Fong, a 26-year-old mix of Portuguese, Finnish, and Hong Kong heritage. With a chiseled build and a striking resemblance to actor Ng Wai-ho, Oscar drew immediate praise from Lam for his looks. Kaman Kwan couldn’t hide her admiration. But Oscar’s profession surprised the panel: he has worked as an air-conditioning installer and cleaner since age 18, handling everything from window units to central systems. “My AC just broke – I’d love to see you clean it,” Kwan blurted out. Oscar smiled, noting that customers often wonder why a man with his looks chooses such a trade.
The third contestant is a familiar face: Wang Weiye, crowned “Lam Man-chung 2.0” last year on the network’s “First Look with Peanuts” segment for his famously evasive answers. Returning via video call, Wang continues his trademark habit of dodging direct questions with circular replies.
Closing the preview is Cheng Kin-lok, a 59-year-old actor and personal trainer. Cheng, who is divorced, said he has had four relationships since his marriage ended – the youngest partner being just 25 or 26. That girlfriend, he admitted, kept her activities secret. Ko, pressing him, asked bluntly, “So you were never officially together?” Cheng insisted that the woman’s affectionate gestures and words proved the connection was genuine. Ko urged caution: “Protect yourself.”
The season, produced by TVB, aims to push beyond traditional dating-show clichés by spotlighting real conversations about modern love, age gaps, and unconventional careers. As the show’s “peanut group” of commentators – a mix of comedians and analysts – offer live reactions, producers hope viewers will find both laughs and genuine emotional stakes.
“Goddess Matchmaking Plan 2” airs weeknights at 10:30 p.m. on TVB Jade. The full 12-episode season will showcase a series of challenges, eliminations, and eventual pairings, with a grand finale slated for late March.
